50 long years of dancing around what to call each other, and we’re even further apart. Right all you birthing and non- birthing people, unless you identify as an animal, I apologize in advance.
Didn’t realize the idiocy had taken root so long ago. Too late to change it now. It’s grown and matured until it pervades every element of society. Not that it is a totally bad thing. Recognizing and honoring those of different ethnic origins and those of differing approaches to life simply acknowledges that we share a planet. We don’t own it.
I was in college at this time (1975) and there was a silly series of exchanges in the student newspaper, such that it was sexist to say “ChairMAN”, as it should be “ChairPERSON”, but then “Person” was sexist because “son” was specifically male. Therefore it should be “ChairperOFFSPRING”. I remember some letter writers (representing both sides of the issue) got quite upset about this. My personal opinion (yes, I used “son”, but I’m male so doesn’t that make it okay since it refers to me?) is, dispense with the whole thing and just say “Chair” as in “Department Chair”. Much simpler that way, in everything!
A long time ago (the 1970s), a friend of mine was elected to head an organization. When their newsletter came out, it said that she had been elected “chairperson”. She wrote an angry response, pointing out that in the organization’s bylaws, the title of the office was “Chairman”, and that was how she wanted to be referred to.

I’m not sure if that would be allowed today, after all someone there may identify as something else.

In 1975 it was only the beginning of this silliness. I doubt Parker and Hart could’ve foreseen how crazy it would be in the future.

I think the Fink should have addressed them as “saps”.

Waay too many people will object to the term “h—- sapiens.” Even the computer algorithm objects to it.
