    Best not to look too deeply into one’s early beginnings. Some surprises might be a bit much to bear. Of course, there is always the possibility of finding a prominent early relative but it’s significance depends on whether he/she was famous or infamous.

    In order to form a basis of comparison for all these DNA tests, some groups of people from centuries ago had to have stayed in generally the same place for centuries themselves. Nomads, invaders, explorers, refugees, etc. — people who traveled substantial distances from one place to another — make such geographical specificity pretty speculative.

    One statistic I found interesting was the large percentage of the populations of several central Asian countries that could apparently trace their ancestry back specifically to Genghis Khan — a guy who evidently had a generous interpretation of what constituted the spoils of war.
