Well, considering lemmings don’t commit mass suicides as people have so incorrectly assumed for so long, perhaps this isn’t a bad metaphor for all religious people. The misconception is that all religious people are sheep. Hardly true, but once it’s in people’s heads, it’s hard to think of it any other way.

You see, best not to think about the fact that your religion makes no sense. What’s important here is a commitment to the FAITH. If you believe strongly enough, no amount of cognitive disconnect will deter you.

They should do like a bear I saw once, walked on all fours to the road then reared up (like these guys) saw the road and turned right around and ran back into the woods.

The sheep eaten by the shepherd is just as dead as the one eaten by the wolf. The main difference is that one has been sheared first.

Overlooking the fact that lemmings are “noted” for following the leaders in bodies of water to drown, it isn’t that initial leap of faith that kills them. The REAL smart ones are the ones wearing Mae Wests!! Larry probably has one under his chute harness as well. The true survivor “doubles down” on reality , and does NOT leave it all to “faith” alone!!

I’m reminded of the New Yorker cartoon “What Lemmings Believe” (Robert Mankoff), which shows a line of paired lemmings marching off the cliff and heading upwards

Rina — doesn’t matter. Unless one thing, like crossing the street, heart disease, or cancer, already causes more than half of ALL deaths, it isn’t going to cause more deaths than all other causes added together.
