There’s a clue we all missed: what happened to those four bags of cocaine that Earl and Hot Rize picked up at the Plentys? We never saw them at the crime scene; the only cocaine found there was on the passenger-door window sill. And on 18 May Tracy told Hot Rize that traces of cocaine had been found at the truck. Only the Jolly Green Giant would think of two hundred pounds of coke as a “trace.” Someone else must have visited the crime scene before the police found it.
Wednesday, the gun was in Hot Rize’s left hand.Thursday, it was in her left hand.Friday, it was in her left hand (in two separate panels).Yesterday, the gun wasn’t shown but her right hand was shown, and there was no gun in it, so the gun was presumably in her left hand.Today, the gun is shown in her left hand three times.
How are we supposed to handle all this continuity? In the old regime, the gun would have changed hands so many times (even between panels of the same strip), she would have developed a blister on her trigger finger.
The biscuit queen definitely saw what was happening and we know she pressed the button to fill the hopper. Unknown, at this time, is her motive. Is she in on the cocaine ring and trying to silence a tongue that might talk, or is she enraged that Hot Rize would use her plant to distribute the drug.
.@BillThompsonMy guesss it was delivered to Tony Rockyhorror..@brinikI’m still convinced her only concern is her Flakey Biscuit Empire, and has nothing to do with the drug trade..ANOTHER BEAUTIFUL SUNDAY STRIP, GREAT JOB TEAM TRACY!!!
This comic strip is so awesome as they wrap-up this Flakey Biscuits episode the only thing needed now is for wndrwrthg to put a good one in. A lil toe tag or something wndrwrthg!
The ONLY negative comment: WHY IS’NT THERE A ZOOM ANYMORE? It was very nice for people with eyesight prolems. I have to downoad from comics dot com to read the strip. Please bring the zoom back for the Sunday strip.
I think Hot Rize looks an awful lot like Walter Berndts creation, Smitty. Disappointed in today’s strip. Absolutely nothing we have not seen in the past week.
.@LudwigVonDrake, the Sunday strip is a recap, some papers only carry DT on Sundays. So, TEAM TRACY, has to set it up in such a way that the Sunday Strip can stand alone.Hench the reason Hot Rize is still “alive” today.
Weep not for Hot RizeWho has met her demiseHer drug running turned sourNow she is all covered with flourHer fortunes she had stakedOn plans that were half baked“The weed of crime bears bitter fruit”Especially when it produces tootWho knows what might have beenHad she not known Charlie SheenTo keep him satisfied was her goalBut that endeavor has taken its tollA young lady struck down in her primeThe cost of turning to a life of crimeSuch a winsome lass with hair of redWho has now wound up deadHer mother tried to bring her up rightTo save her from this awful plightBut she was headstrong and wouldn’t listenNow dear mommas eyes slowly glistenHer death does bring to mindJust what legacy does she leave behindWill others learn from her mistakeAnd not mess with the Peruvian flakeOr will they go forward into the tradeBecause there is much money to be made?
@Brenda_fan: I surely agree. Another Sunday page with classic Dick Tracy elements.@EOCostello: I noticed that “by myself” remark also. Could be a clue about who else is involved.I’m glad that summer is coming, but I will miss that wonderful yellow trench coat until next fall.
It’s the words “by myself” that struck me as a possible clue. At least, that’s my take on it. Back in Locher’s days, he’d pepper the strip with red herrings. He’d leave more red herrings than he had story.
I’m still not convinced that Flakey is in on it. I have no evidence to support the fact she’s involved in the Drug trade. Futhermore, the “by myself clue”, dosen’t point the finger at Ms. Biscuits since Hot Rize wasn’t doing it by herself. If you remember correctly this all came to light when George Romero made a phone call. ( Sorry I said Tony Rockyhorror the other day). When Hot Rize got Angry that he called her at work. Because Tony Rockyhorror was supposed to deliver the stuff to Romero. If Flakey knew why was Hot Rize so upset with the call. So, there are Two other people involved right there. Is Flakey a drug dealer I don’t know murder afraid of losing her Empire, I say yes.
I have a theory about how it may have gone down. Earl was asking Hot Rize about why the flour was in separate bags, and stated that the rest was in those sealed bags. Hot Rize mentions exactly one kilo was gone. Maybe the cocaine is in one kilo plastic bags stored inside the flour bags? If that is true then maybe Earl was holding one when he asked Hot Rize about them. When Hot Rize pulled her gun and shot him he flung his arms up to protect himself and flung the bag at the van hitting the passenger side window with it. Since it was dark Hot Rize may not have even noticed. His body was found on the passenger side of the van facing towards the window. After killing Earl Hot Rize arranged to have her associates come and pick her up and get their delivery. I doubt she lifted those bags out of the back herself. Since Earl was wearing a Flakey Biscuit uniform she may have decided that leaving the truck behind wouldn’t point any more fingers at her, besides the truck was blocking the view of the body from passing cars. She also didn’t know how to drive a manual transmission (the shifter is shown in the same panel as the window with the coke on it). As for whether or not Ms Biscuits is in on it….. All questions will be answered this week. (grin)

This art is great! And no words in the last panel says everything. (And this is coming from a writer who trumps art almost all the time.)

am I the only one that thinks Hot Rize looks like Jimmy Olsen from the old Superman comics?

Mike Curtis is one of the leading authorities on Superman memorabilia. Any resemblance to Jimmy Olsen is purely intentional. ;-)

I think we can definitely say that the biscuit queen is in on this dope ring. Before the last panel I wasn’t sure.

As a southpaw myself, I consider making the villainess a left-hander a ‘sinister’ development.
