seems he is only slightly scared of dates, unlike Q and L

I do believe that is “Rarnaby Budge” by Charles Dikkens..

Looks like these two could write the book on dating.

I have a feeling that they won’t do a LICK of reading.

@ Alain Harper…wndrwrthg was making a Monty Python reference (Dikkens with 2 K’s, the well known Dutch author) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eCM2nEBE0RY

I hope Greg persues this line between them. They do look good for each other.

Rosa likes the novels of Charles Dickens! So do I! If Gunther doesn’t make good on this potential match, he’s losing a real winner!

‘Ethel the Aardvark’ isn’t considered a classic? LoL@wndrwrthg….and Wiselad, I would have loved to see the bookstore sketch with Marty Feldman. back on subject, I like to see things going Gunther’s way. He reminds me a bit of me in high school, just a bit smarter and more multitalented

Gunthner always had trouble asking Luann on a date. I was hoping he would be a little smoother here. Come on Gunther. She is interested in you. She wouldn ‘t be in the library with you if she wasn’t. Lighten up and follow through.

I think Rosa opened the door for the “hit” Anyway, not a hit, but a Freudian slip.
StoicLion1973 over 13 years ago
I noticed that foreign-born Rosa is more appreciative and attractive to a normal person like Gunther wile the born-and-bred American girls like Luann, Tiffany and Bernice dismiss him.
ChemSteve over 13 years ago
Rosa is a younger, brunette version of Toni…in physical appearance, anyway. Toni might not be as well read.

Not at least to bumbling and insecure guys…(sorry, first thought that came to mind).Humor is based on the upsetting of expectations and everybody’s psychological “trickster” differs on that subject (in eight different basic flavors, actually). The problem is most of us don’t realize that and often we expect everyone else’s humor to “Be Like Ours” or “Be Like Theirs”. I for one enjoy Greg’s versatility in exploring the human condition – not every cartoonist can play to different “trickster” points of view.

Who says Rosa is foreign born? Luann doesn’t dismiss Gunther. She loves him as a friend. She just isn’t attracted to him. Tiffany dismisses nearly everyone. Bernice treats Gunther like a friend. That’s normal human behavior. All girls can’t be attracted to all boys who have a crush on them and all boys can’t be attracted to all girls who have a crush on them.

For Gunther it is the best of times and the worst of times to ask Rosa for a date.

Like the AC/DC song goes:“Na, na, na, naaa, na, na, naaa, naaa. GUN-THER! “Na, na, na, naaa, na, na, naaa, naaa. GUN-THER!”

one of the few potentially healthy relationship in the strip.

Gunther had better hurry up and ask before Rosa’s calendar is all “booked” up. . .

I checked Rosa on the archives (9/7/2006). Back then her skin color was much darker than now. I thought she was perhaps intended to be of African or other dark skinned ancestry.

Rehashing on the Diplomatic immunity: the “temporary citizenship” (not appropriate term as I had said) issued to diplomats is called A visa…the A is not the singular reference but the name of the visa – as opposed to the permanent residence visa issued to immigrants or green card. A visas are issued to diplomats and very few other foreign head government officials. Those A visas grant them the equal (nearly) protection provided by the US Constitution when they are not immigrants with green cards or hold permanent resident visa. A visas are different from those.

Oh No!! He said the “D” word. I realize that everybody in this strip is suffering from a severe hormone dificiency, but must they all behave like ninnies evey time the opportunity for romance arises? I can’t believe these people are in high school. We didn’t act like this in junior high.
TELawrence over 13 years ago
It’s high time that Gunther found his soul-mate. Luann clearly is not the one.
Chocoloop over 13 years ago
Ummmm, they’re a cute couple, but without Luann, it’s boring. How about finding Bernice someone to go out with, Greg?

I was just wondering how Tiff will react to this. She’ll see Gunther dating the girl who beat her in a beauty contest. She never considered Gunther worthy of dating herself. How-now, Tiff?

@fanolio – coloring on the older strips was not done per United Media specs that have been in place for maybe 3 years now, my guess is that the art was colored post publication date for print collection(s) and nt done by one person consistently. The only skin color spec’d different than “pink” is for Delta and TJ. I believe the first time I saw Rosa as a character to be colored was when she appeared on a school bus — don’t have that date at hand.

Hmmm … Gunther gets a live one-and she has some brain power goin’ for her. Maybe this will loosen him up …

and “lots of time to discuss this”, man, if a girl had fed me a line like that when I was young, I’d have been in REAL trouble, REAL soon …. subtle, I like that …
