Happy Anniversary, Dick Tracy!Nice tribute cross-over in Gasoline Alley (another old Tribune Syndicate strip).Too bad events being recounted by Sam in the strip are not so happy….
And it all comes full circle. Out of tragedy, and out of the imagination of Chester Gould, a great hero is born. Thanks to everyone for keeping this great strip going.
Happy anniversary Dick and here’s to many many more! Thank you team Tracy for your wonderful contribution in such a short time. And, thank you to all of the creative artists and writers who came before them.
It’s hard to expand on the sincere appreciations expressed above, so may I simply add my own by first saying thanks to Joe, Mike and the rest of the team. They have restored and rejuvinated the Tracy legacy. And thanks as well to all those artists, writers, editors and publishers that supported this strip over the past 80 years.
I join all those gathered here in this forum in wishing a Happy 80th Anniversary to Dick Tracy. May this work continue to propser and be enjoyed by many generations to come, just as it has been by the generations before.
Thanks for the info, I’ll have to hunt down those other two..And I figured they probably left out the plot twist to avoid spoiling the movie, good to hear the official word..I’ll have to make sure I snatch up that Scholastic version if I ever come across it. I’ve seen that novelization pop up quite a few times at thrift shops, but after buying one copy, I’ve never paid attention to the others.
My gosh, to think this strip started up the year I was born. Still remember many of those characters from back then, both those who ended up with the punishment they deserved and those who turned themselves around with Tracy’s help…such as Gravel Girty and B.O. Plenty.
Thank you, Joe and Mike, for the renewing of this strip and bringing it to life. I had no idea of it’s existance had it not been for GASOLINE ALLEY. Thanks again.
Congrats on 80 years! We used to pick up the NY Daily News on Saturday night arounf 9 PM at the local candy store(I think for my parents to see what horses won, and the para-mutual take at the tracks for the"numbers game")! Loved reading the front page of Tracy(full page) in full color. Early 60’s started me, and ever since.:)
Back in college (late 80s, before the internet took over), I went to the library and found The Celebrated Cases of Dick Tracy. I totally absorbed the book. I was a fan of the daily, but I never read the old ones until that time. After that, I went to the newspaper microfilm area and just read the comic strips in serial format, going through a couple of years a night. I even did a research paper on the Dick Tracy villains and how they reflected the societal wrongs of that particular era. Dick Tracy is a true iconic classic, and I am so happy it’s still going strong, and in truly capable hands. I can’t say it enough… thank you.
Happy Birthday/Anniversary, Dick Tracy! A year ago I could only reminisce about the days of old. Give me that old time Dick Tracy! This year, I got my wish and the future looks bright again. Joe and Mike, you guys rock!
Happy birthday. Tracy! This strip has never looked better. Love the way it’s being written and drawn. I no longer have any reservations on the retcon as it now makes perfect sense without interfering with the original source material. Mike has really fleshed out this strip, and for that I will always be enternally grateful. Keep it up, Team!
