Ah. Knute is smart enough to know he is stupid. There’s hope for him yet.

The only thing I do not like about this storyline is that it is too close to the Brad/Toni one (at the beginning). Dorky guy liking a stunning girl. While there are differences of course, it is still very similar. Hopefully there is no abusive boyfriend in Rosa’s life.

Gunth needs to grow a pair and step up to the plate. At least give him is shot, O Author!

Gunther’s lack of manhood is getting quite annoying. Not even funny anymore.

Sounds like a typical High School geek/nerd to me. It can be scary at any age to go forward in a relationship. That said: Gunther has either lost his mind or he is still carrying a torch for Luann. As for Knute… I like many other men am married to a woman who is MUCH smarter than I am. Get used to it.

People who cannot find irony in Gunther’s behaviour were probably the arrogant “Jocks” in High School.I was raised on a farm, which meant that while I had the best build in my class, family obligations prevented from taking part in after-school sports. I was never part of the Jock culture.Not having sisters and being at a boys school, I was literally blushingly awkward around girls.Was it funny? Only to others, mainly girls. It has nothing to do with descended testes. Snakes and wild animals were not scary, but any sweet young woman would totally flummox me.As has been said, Gunter’s problem is that he is a normal teenager who thinks too much, which was always my family’s standard criticism of me.Oh, and now that I am much older, I am finding that the ex-wives of those Jocks find me rather interesting.

Gunther does have one advantage over me. He has a caring female friend. Luann may have dodged his romantic advances, but has sweetly looked after him in recent times.She got him the most honoured position in the West Side Story production.She has mentored him with getting his first date with Rosa.

Gunther is such a moody introvert, he forces me to platitudes: ’tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all!

We want Ann and TJ!

I feel for Gunther. I took me a couple of years to get the nerve to call my future wife. When I did, she rejected me, for a bit. We have been very happily married for almost 30 years. So hang in there Gunther.

The one bahavior that seems to remind me that you are teens is that you think you have to bahave like something your not to get your girl. Get it through your head, Gunther. For some strange reason Rosa likes you just the way you are. Knute – Your problem is different. You and Crystal are total opposites. I think your completely carefree attitude is a refreshing thing for her. Somebody just like her would drive her nuts.

These guys are funny! I do remember being terrified in High School when the object of my affection would return my attention.

More of the inept male theme, Greg?

High School.

A) Many people who claim to be bored by the Gunther theme are probably reminded of similar episodes in our own lives – and it’s uncomfortable to be reminded of them. B) Who knows why Rosa is attracted to Gunther? He’s smart & well read, sure – but his awed and flummoxed attitude to her is flattering. C) Greg’s story gives assurance to youth with similar problems that they are not alone. D) It gives Greg a means to help shy & uncertain males come out of their shells as Gunther matures – like other themes, we want it to happen faster!

It’s a cartoon! Not a novel, so naturally the characters are not fully developed. I think they represent a normal bunch of teenagers.

Mordock, I love your idea of measuring Rosa for a costume! But Gunth would have to plan his moves in advance, and for that he needs a mentor.Gunth is not a pathetic loser— like Rosa, he has intelligence rather than a pathetic oversupply of hormones. This will take time, but it will last.

There is no way, I repeat NO WAY that a spanish girl will show any interest to some dude with little no no confidence! They can smell that 3 miles away!

All of us most critical of Gunth probably have some similar inept venturing memories of our own…I bet THAT’S true.

Looks like the old high school bullies have “graduated” to commenting on Greg & Gunther.

For Gunther, it will be best for his highest romantic success to be holding hands and a peck on the lips—until marriage.

the characters look way too old to be still in high school—especially the guy all hunched over in the last panel

one thing is to have a person not cross the street until he sees no car less than a block away………… but Gunther looks like the type that won’t cross a street UNLESS there are no cars within 5 miles

Let’s get back to Luann the the Australian guy – it’d be nice to see Luann come out ahead more often.

Hi, I have never commented before, but I read Luann daily. I love reading this comic, but does anyone else feel frustrated at how little Luann is actually the topic? I enjoy seeing her friends and family and thier stories, but would love to see more movement regarding Luanns story.

Really, everyone! Why does it have to be the guy’s job to chase after the girl? Sure, Gunther needs to develop some confidence and take action. But Rosa is perfectly capable of inviting Gunther on a date herself.

Oh c’mon Wayhle. Brad isn’t dorky anymore. Greg carefully crafted Brad from Dork to semi-stud by him getting physically fit, and making him a firefighter so he’d be at least close to worthy of Toni. I still think he’s over-chicking, but his uber-dork days are long gone. But the Gunther thing? I’ve always hated that. No chick would go for him, unless it was some fat ugly broad settling ‘cause she can’t get any better. Luann is WAY to hot for him, as well as Rosa. The only thing Gunther has going for him is he’s probably gonna be filthy rich working for Microsoft after college. Then he can score any hot little gold-digger he wants. Study pre-nups Gunth!

The thing that bothers me about Knute is that his hair seems to be gray. Why is it gray?

@Jo Jo, I had at least one friend in HS who had greying hair in his teens (just as there was one girl with a natural grey/white streak).
