Actually, Vitamin does look like an elderly Vincent Price – although he came along when Vincent was a young man. (And I appreciate the Sesame Street shout out to the host of “Mysterious Theatre,” Vincent Twice, Vincent Twice. You can’t beat the classics!)
Well, we hoped (many of us, anyhow) that the next visitor from the strip’s past would be Vitamin, but — Wow! Wotta entrance! Joe and Mike thoroughly understand and appreciate the sheer theatricality of the character. Chester Gould (as well as big Flintheart fan Max Allan Collins) would be impressed. Reading the Tracy strip is a highlight of my day.
Wow. Great reintroduction! As I recall, Vitamin was based on John Barrymore. If you do a Google search, you’ll find several images that look like the spitting image.
i’m surprised matt hasnt chimed in yet complaining about vitamin’s smoking and questioning how a man of his advanced age could still be alive what wth smoking so much. the LAST time i saw vitamin was when Joe was born. I’m glad I got “re-addicted” to Tracy! NOW we gotta wait for Johnny Adonis to come back! lol!
He looks good for one who had to eat peas for awile, hm?
I was going though my DT books, and may I add this list to old characters to re-appear? What about Themesong? She gave Vitamin a run for his money :). Rainbow O’Riley too?
I’ll post others as I see. Keep up the good work, gentlemen.
WHAT is that over Vitamin’s left shoulder?Vitamin has one of those long cigarette holders clenched between his teeth, with a lit cigarette making a cloud of smoke. The colorist didn’t color the smoke, and the word balloon covers a lot of it.. I also believe that the line coming from Vitamin’s hat brim to the word balloon and the line from the top of the receptionist’s head to the word balloon are part of the open doorway behind the receptionist. If the colorist wanted to be consistent that area should be the nice bright blue (gak) with a light grey cloud over it. I also HATE what was done with the receptionists dress in the last panel. All of the detail lines are totally obscured by the dark purple.
I always wondered what happened to Themesong. Maybe she met Peanutbutter?I remember the post-Gould team’s dramatic Flintheart return; he was a steady character for about 4 years. My paper dropped the strip in 82, alas, during the “Mole as a farmer” story. I like that he is surrounded by women, that did not happen much in the old days unless he was under the Influence.

Yesterday APersonOFInterest wrote, “Thanks for all the kind words yesterday.”
But I still didn’t see him or her posting any links so we could see more of, or purchase, his or her work.
