Oh no. As an architect I’m probably going to have to deal with a lot of requests for those from now on. But, I must admit, it’s a brilliant idea and I would probably want one for my house.

It eliminates all those sooty footprints all over the living room.

When I was a lad, our house had a brick chimney up the middle for the old coal-converted-to-gas “octopus” furnace – but no fireplace.

One day Mom couldn’t find me; finally came across me in the basement, just as my screwdriver was approaching the last of the mortar around the first brick of the hole I was making for Santa……..
