Also, considering that Dick’s been slowly disrobing over the last few days, and considering their relative positions in Panel One, I guess the expression on Dick’s face in Panel Two makes sense.
Poor Dick Tracy. Trouble really follows him around. After a failed attempt to enjoy the circus, he’s on his way to an intereresting time at the theater.
Respighi died in 1936, what year is it in Dick Tracy land?
I think at the rate of consistency in this current script, we’re in some post-apocolypic parallel universe where everything is flipped around and happens in reverse, so in 70 years time, we should be seeing Pat Patton deciding to become a ballerina following the return and recusitation of his auntie.
I give up. Dick Tracy can’t go to the 7/11 without a major crime breaking out there, and he’d be trapped behind the potato chips screaming while the dastardly criminals run off with a soda and sandwich. The man is a menace to society and should be put where his travels can’t hurt other people.
Respighi’s “Ancient Airs and Dances” is one of my favorite pieces of music. For anyone interested, there is a glorious recording by the Lausanne Chamber Orchestra, Jesus Lopez-Cobos conducting.
Thanks for that link Flight Suit, it clears up the connection and clarifies that it’s not the characters name (He still needs a name). The man is apparently a Conductor of a Symphony Orchestra that plays Respighi’s compositions (?)
And judging from his alarming disposition we have a mobile ”pig” of sorts in this story too !
Maybe Locher is doing a Marx Brothers Tribute? We’ve had a Day at the Circus. Now we’ll have a Night at the Opera. All we need next is a Day at the Races!
Badgered for slow pacing and lackluster sequences our Author (peeved?) ventures a little “sparkling” variety with his “panel” captions.
Our Karpse like character, is on Nov.5 captioned as being - “Elsewhere”, then on Nov.27 - “In the City”, and today - “Elsewhere” again.
Tomorrow, I believe he’ll be “Downtown”.
Nothing technically wrong with the descriptions (and it’s all a bit trivial, perhaps), but they seem to signal a “desperate scratching” effort for a tad of excitement.
Sadly efforts depicted on the ‘phone here, or trapped in the Tiger’s cage (with Tracy’s snivelling), fail to achieve an emotional transfer to readers, of any “sensation” of danger or urgency.
The pictures are there but they FAIL to translate to a sense of wanting to “know” what’s going to HAPPEN … tomorrow … or any compelling need to run out for the papers in the morning to read Tracy before sunrise.
@VistaBill, Tracy’s had his fill of danger and excitement. Tess has been stuck at home all day, and wants to get out of the house. Basic marital conflict. Never dealt with in any depth in the comic. (Nor is any other aspect of his life or work for that matter.)
Has anybody noticed a major story developing over on another network?? Looks like there is some excitement on Alley Oop happening…..he’ll probably get married to his long time girl friend Ooola within the next few months. How many years has that been….more than an average lifetime almost. Longer than Clark Kent took, or Spidey or Lil’ Abner or almost any other character in the comic strip world. The caveman rules…..at least there is some excitement somewhere!
Just three hours to go ‘til the next thrilling installment of DT is published!
Hmmm…
1) It is very sad that the most exciting thing I have to look forward to each day is the new DT.
2) The new installment will be a Sunday recap. The only problem is that not enough has transpired in this new story arc to take up an entire recap. I wonder how they’ll handle that?
I’m guessing we’ll see the dénouement of the previous story and the beginning of the current one, all in one Sunday recap.

Thanks. I feel like I’m 100 now. Hope I can stay awake another hour for the Sunday strip. The Crimestoppers Notebook offers so much valuable advice.

I bet you’re right, barticle35!
Wonder why Tess doesn’t let Tracy simply order a pizza?

Macy is trying to drop a hint (hit) on Tess and she is totally ignoring him. Get ready for the headache excuse, Macy.
