Are we supposed to read between the lines here? Assuming Shaky’s right handed and Fortuna’s left eye needs “fixing”, so… she accidentally “walked into a door” as they say? Not that she didn’t have it coming, but that cad! That’s almost as bad as poodle punting… ;p
I feel a limpness coming on with the action here. I studiously avoided Mary Worth as it appeared very vanilla to these chocolate loving eyes. Jackson Twins had more action, with them wondering who they were going to the big high school dance with.
Why would we assume that Fortuna is the victim here? She’s going method here, identifying with Breathless, who was pretty violent herself and racked up at least one homicide and a couple of attempts.
Well, in the panels that apparently hit the cutting room floor, maybe we finally have a teensy-weensy hint of a possible crime – still hidden in the shadows…
2-…Shoot, you’re dressed. Anyway, here’s 20 pages of script changes for you to learn in the next 5 minutes. The new ending has you marrying Pappy and living happy with Pappy for ever after. Audiences are suckers for stories like that…
3-…What’s wrong? FORTUNE: I hope the new script has me coming to my senses after I run into a door and suddenly see things clearly.
SENIOR: It doesn’t…BUT I LIKE IT. BRILLIANT! Can you do a realistic black eye? I think we have a couple bucks in the budget for shoe polish.
FORTUNE: Not necessary. I’m a method actor. I insist on authenticity. I got it covered. But I’ll uncover it.
SENIOR: Does this have anything to do with why Jay is asking to be paid as a make-up artist on today’s shoot? FORTUNE: THAT BAS***D!!!!
Fortuna Dyer’s dressing room has one of those make-up mirrors that have lights all around three sides (left, right, and top). Yet, despite panel 2 showing all lighting apparently functional, in panel 3 half or more of Fortuna’s face and upper torso are in Dark Shadows [not the vampire-soap]. So, I think it fair for us to conclude that the shadows are Artistic License for dramatic effect, that Fortuna does have a blackened left eye and/or facial contusions, and that the cause thereof was Shaky Mk.2, who did not accept her dismissive attitude (as seen yesterday). This can be further construed as a do-over necessitated by witless censorship.
The remaining, and bigger, question also alluded to by numerous commenters already, is whether or not “Breathless” reacted by offing Shaky Mk.2. His corpse may among the censored remains on the cutting room floor!
Finally, a thought, prompted by some comments yesterday (I think; I’m not re-reading through them all to be be sure it was yesterday rather than even earlier) that brought John Glynn and GoComics into question: I am pretty sure that GoComics is not the agent of censorship here; rather, whatever Censor has dumbed down the strip to his (or her) own juvenile level is at the Tribune Syndicate or Distribution Agency, or whatever they are calling it today (the recent tumultuous history of troubled Tribune Publishing has names being changed so frequently that it is hard to keep up with it all). —That’s my three cents worth (I allow for inflation)….

Good morning™, touch-up artists!
It makes you wonder what is hidden in the deeply shadowed half of her face. The mascara on the side we can see doesn’t look too bad.

Notice the “Yelling at Shaky” part we missed between yesterday and today. I wonder what happened? It would have been interesting!

He did not give her a black eye. So now Shaky II assaults women. Now I really want to see him get what’s coming to him.
