For Stokes, the dope, there is no hope. This “Vampire” sure does suck

Has a kink and fangs to sink. Still, he forgot to duck.

Lizz swung her purse and with a curse Stokes landed on his duff

No easy prey for him this day. Professor not so tough.

“You murdered Faith, blood-lusting wraith. Now learn crime does not pay

Off to jail to gnash and wail. In prison night and day.”

A smoke bomb drops. “Take that, you cops!” Stokes dashes for the fence

A runner now, yet who knows how his panicked flight makes sense.

“Up the dumpster, over the fence, right onto the girder!”

The dead end alley worked great with Shaky (June 25), but Stokes is not going to let a mere fence stop him from escaping!

If he lands right he will live to kill another day or at least disappear into obscurity to live in a new town under a new identity. He doesn’t deserve to be so lucky so I hope he lands in a pile of broken wino bottle glass.

It’s really going to be a dead end… for Stokes

I agree with those who suggest that the end to this story is shaky…

Maybe he’ll land in the smokestack of a passing boat.

Since he’s leaping next to a “Jazz Fest” banner and will likely meet his demise shortly (we hope), the old jazz-spiritual “The Saints” came to mind…

Stokes is now traveling in the footsteps

Of those that’d run before

And he will be apprehended

Or else death will lie in store

Reminds me of when I visited “N’awlins” 20 years ago and stopped in to see the Preservation Hall Jazz Band. They had a big ‘ol sign on the wall behind them that read something to the effect that while requests were welcomed and free, requesting “The Saints” would cost you $25! It’s a great song… the first five-thousand times you play it.

That flailing cape is bound to get snagged on something…..

Crimestopper’s spreads fear and misunderstanding about the fight against Covid. It may be true but only partly. Certainly be careful to get an app from a trusted source, duh, but if you think your app store can give you malware then why download anything from them? All their apps are suspect not just the virus tracker.

If he’s headed into the Jazz Festival, it looks as if we’ll have an extended chase to continue the story.

Remember, Lizz is supposed to be cutting him off, so wouldn’t be surprised if she’s waiting for Stokes on the other side.

The suspense was palpable… for about two seconds.

There’s too much at Stokes -stake- to just give up!
