I saw an 8-track in a movie once. That’s it.

I still have an 8-track tape recording deck. Not much of a call for it now, but when this new fangled digital craze is over, I’m ready.

they could be awfull. LZ’s “whole lotta love” faded out halfway through to go Click, (change tracks), and faded back in. On the other hand, The 8 track version of “Miss you” on “Some Girls”, (Stones), Had a slower Tempo and an extended middle bit with more lyrics. It was actually a better version and I have never heard it on the radio, LP or cassette.

Since we are reminiscing. what about the vinyl albums and no turn tables to play them on?

I remember my sister and I sitting at the kitchen table recording a song on a cylinder. I also remember my father’s first stereo record player that came with a record with sounds such a train moving from one speaker to the other. Now I have what they call a Blu Ray gizmo connected to my computer. Not sure what it all does except load games and plays music and videos. Do you really burn a CD?

Vinyl records are making a comeback. People like the warm sound of records and turntables.

40years for Dark Side? oh my, lol. still love the whole “album”. too many of the 8 track got caught up in the machine, like cassette players. lol

Didn’t mean to be a bummer, but memories are what they are. And some memories are best remembered to keep us from doing stupid things again.

Yep, that’s me. Computer semi illiterate. All I know is that the world is a very different place than the one I grew up in.

BTW, what’s the older guy’s name? I can’t remember if it was ever presented. Of course, if I remember 8-tracks, that’s probably not too surprising.

8-tracks broke a 2-sided album into four sections (left, right channel for each track, totaling 8) so unless you got lucky there were songs that got cut in the middle with an unceremonious >ka-chunk<. I can still hear that sound.

I remember DAT’s. Too expensive.

8 track was the clumsiest recording system ever invented. I learned this trying to make mix tapes on an 8 track recorder. I actually completed two. Each one took days.

I never liked 8 tracks. I had a few, but I kinda went from albums to cassettes. Although I didn’t like cassettes much, either. I really love digital music, though. I still have a bunch of albums, and a bunch of CDs, but most of my music these days is digital. I don’t even bother with my old stereo equipment any more. No need.

wow, didn’t realize that Dark Side of the Moon was that old. Makes me feel even older. I was 9 when that came out. How time flies

They’ve cheated and exploited artist for years. I’m overjoyed that the old ways are dying.

I sure hope they didn’t use yard work and babysitting as their rewards! That would be a lot of hours of work.

The ONLY time I touched an 8-track was 1963 in a radio station, we had two 8-track players, two turntables, and a microphone – all the adverts were on 35 or 65 second auto-stop tapes, all the music was vinyl.

I, too, had a Gremlin – bought new in 1970. Absolutely the very worst car I’ve ever owned by some margin. But they looked cool at the time!

How about you go play with your Watergate tapes?

I needed to get the contents of a disc drive into my laptop. I purchased a Kingwin EZ-Dock for the job. Ever notice how a disc drive resembles an 8-track?

8-tracks were great until the tape wore thin and you could hear both sides at once. . .

If you think Watergate was a mere third rate burglary, then you don’t get the picture.

Actually, effectively written KickStarter projects can be great. Separating yourself from the crowd can be a challenge, though. If they set a very low goal, with good rewards and a great promo, it can be done. Usually takes weeks, not hours, though.
