This ’toon was first published in 1997. We passed the 20-year mark 5 years ago, and marijuana is still a Schedule 1 drug as far as the feds are concerned.
In other developments, Benjamin Franklin strongly recommended that the US adopt the metric system. (True. You could look it up!)
I was at my local dispensary the other day and the woman in front of me was making her first visit. I say that because she wanted to pay with a credit card. You can’t do that because of the feds. Interestingly though you can use your bank account debit card.
It’s been about two years since private use was legalized in my state of New Jersey. Still waiting for the pot stores to open. State officials say there are other priorities now. Something about a pandemic. Oh, well.
I read somewhere, it may have been in Oregon, that the Girl Scouts set up their cookie stand across the street from a cannabis store. It might have been a made-up story, but its a good one, nonetheless.
California loused up pot legalization big time. There is actually more criminality associated with cannabis now than there was before. Other states did fine.
I thought BD was a motorcycle cop for CHP. What does traffic enforcement have to do with drug enforcement? Oh, except maybe for searching the cars of black drivers for “drugs” but rarely the cars of white drivers.
It does highlight the original reason for making pot illegal. Prohibition of alcohol ended and you had all these police with nothing to look for. Good way to lock up Black folk.
Kalifornia really made a mess of it but in the end, it really helped out the potheads and screwed everyone else. We are wading through piles of Bud no one wants; prices have fallen to 1985 with 2022 quality. Growers are not making $5 an hour after costs. Some Heaven.

To tell the truth, I’m looking forward to the arcs concerning Bush’s war in Iraq.
Not only are BD’s ideals blown to bits, but he finally loses all those damned helmets!!

Legalizing reefer is all about tax revenue. It’s that simple.

See, a silver lining. Not exactly bread and circuses, but pot and clowns are almost as good.

Once governments realized how much money they could make from taxing it, legalization was a foregone conclusion. It happened with gambling.

Soon, “gone to pot” will have a different meaning than its present one.

Copyright 1997. Legalized in California in 2020. Talk about prophetic…..

For those who are subject to drug testing, especially truck driving, it is still banned. Illegal in all forms, including edible and oils.

Cynical. I doubt that most cops enjoy risking their lives to enforce stupid laws.
