I’m surprised he has that many clocks to change. I still have a few, but most of them do it by themselves. I got a new alarm clock a few months ago and it does it. The old one had a button so it was still easy. Most people today use the cable box or smart phone, so it is no longer an issue.
You weren’t explicit enough. “Move up” to him meant to move the clock higher not to change the time to an hour ahead. You have to use tiny words and speak to him as if he is 5 since that is his mental age.
Time changes are always popular complaining points, but all human systems have drawbacks in their attempts to mandate uniformity across inconsistent patterns in the universe.
Also known as Danged If You Do and Danged If You Don’t.
But, hey — I get it. It’s human nature to complain. I’m not immune. This year, I’m so tired, I have so little “Spring” left, I think I’ll just Fall Forward.
Next clock change, I may just have enough energy to Spring Back.
Husband I do 18th century reenacting and we both do “first person”. (We are a person of the period and know nothing past the matching day in 1775 (Jan thru June, Oct thru Dec) or 1776 (Jul though Sept). People will start asking questions such as why the clocks only have one hand (some do/did).
I talk about how time is set by the sun, moon and earth. Years and seasons are set by the earth trip around the sun. Months are set by the moon’s trip around earth. But weeks were set by man (why not 10 days a week?) as were hours, minutes, and seconds.
And of course – there is no spring ahead/fall back for us, so the concept of same if mentioned will require a long explanation to me by the person I am talking with.
Also the concept that the time varies by where one physically is confuses people. There were, of course, no time zones until they were invented to standardize time for train schedules. Time is set by where the sun is in the sky. It might be 10:15am where we are – but in the next town over it might be 10;20am and the further away one goes within one of our modern time zones the further off the time will be.
Why not say put them forward. Speaking as a non American, but an admirer of America, there seems to be some weird ways of saying things in your country.

Some of our clocks adjust by themselves, other don’t – even more annoying than the time change.

You would think that Patrick would have mentioned something earlier, seeing as how he is wearing a watch

Actually did arrive at church an hour late once when I was a kid. We forgot to spring ahead.

Ralph didn’t want to go to church anyway. That is why he gave Norm a task he knew he would mess up.

I don’t get the grandfather clock one. How was he moving that up just by pushing it to the side.

Thank dog we are atheist and don’t have to worry about being on time for rituals.

I can no longer find fault with Norm, for he doesn’t know any better. The fault is with the task maker, for he should know better.

The time change is one of the most stupid things that people do (and that is saying a lot).

I use my cellphone as my alarm clock, and it resets for DST automatically.
bigheadx Premium Member 9 months ago
hm’mm, most of our clocks or watches reset themselves
ChattyFran 9 months ago
The Sunday when DST starts ought to be a day when church isn’t required.
