Though an otherwise cliche way to get rid of the villain, it is perversely apt that he would be undone by the unsportsmanly conduct of the crowd. Now to see what the crowd is going to do with multiple blows of the nursery massacre/major fire/fight fail

Though, looks like Wally isn’t getting out of this unscathed. That bottle did connect, by the looks of that blood trail.

The important thing is that Wally didn’t kill him—important to maintaining Wally’s sanity and character.

Foul on Wally, for getting his blood on the canvas for Phil to slip in…

Is it just me, or is that the other end of the bottle that Phil’s using to attack Wally with? Feels like it would be a little bit of poetic justice, if it were.

Phil takes a bottle, breaks it on the floor and leaves the bottom just so he can fall on it and it wouldn’t have been there if he hadn’t.

It’s okay, Wally, chicks dig scars..

Oooh! A little too close of a shave for Wally, but Phil gets his just desserts with a little impromptu thoracic spinal surgery.Wally may end up with a scar, but Phil has something he’ll remember the rest of his life.Depending on which nerves get severed that may not be a very long time.

Phil didn’t expect a fight to the death would mean causing his own.

Wally almost had a glass jaw.

This bottle is not going to end well.

Who started the fire and destroyed the nursery? My guess is the Queen, in revenge for her son Chick’s supposed death by gas.

Phil slipped in whatever was in the bottles his fellow lizards were throwing..

Also, Wally looks very much awake and ANGRY in panel four.

I don’t think it’s blood. I think it’s sweat.

Note how that tail strategically obstructs our view of Wally’s right eye, which is where that bottle likely hit.

Also, the stuff Phil slipped in looks…lumpy. In another setting my guess would be rotten tomato (the classic standby for throwing in the general direction of those considered surplus to requirements by the general populace), but since it’s probably been a while since anybody down there has even seen a tomato in any stage of freshness, I’m going with rotten egg.

In any case, falling on that bottle may cut him, but I can’t see it going deep enough to kill him.

Unless, of course, the arc of Phil’s fall means his neck connects with the broken bottle.

Wow, neat twist!

Wow; Frame four is a thing of beauty! My eye bounces between the broken bottle on the mat and Phil’s bare back and makes a painful connection. Cartooning at its best, friends!

Revisionist reptiles will somehow still say Wally killed him.

Where’s the ref?!

At least Wally avoided most of the bottle. He must have reflexes like a….oh.

The cruelest cut of all.Phil must be feeling really jaded right now.

In panel 2, there’s spray off the swinging bottle, and what looks like a smear of the same liquid on part of the jagged edges. I say the bottle connected. Wish it hadn’t, though. Another injury is going to make escape even more difficult. Good thing they’ve got an escape hatch and help right below them.

The bottle on the floor doesn’t look like it can cut deep enough to kill… but it ain’t gonna be pleasant.

This will definitely hurt Phil more than it will Wally.

Looks like he got a little slice in on Wally’s face with that swing.

Just as an sidebar, how the heck do the reptiles lie on their backs with that enormous tail? It’s thick enough to hold his back off the bottle! Also how the heck did he get those trunks on? Enquiring minds want to know.

Since my 1st post,I see the blood on the tip of the bottle. Looks more like he could have got cut on his cheeck or cat-face jowls, maybe.Most of his head is behind the ring rope. In panel 4 the rope is between Phil and Wally’s face. His foot/feet is still on the top of the canvas, maybe Holly is supporting him to some extent.

I think the idea is that the bottle Phil falls on will damage his spinal cord, possibly paralysing him.

Of course those cheap, worn-down, pre-apocalypse sneakers might’ve contributed to the slip…

So…..Wally is probably gonna have a permanent scar and Phil….well, I’m sure he can survive with just ONE lung.

I find it telling that nobody has noticed that Phil is kinda succeptible to a boot in the plums at the moment… :D

It would take a very accurate placement for that to be fatal. Painful and messy, sure, but fatal—very unlikely.
