That’s OK dear, have you got barbecue sauce and some hamburger buns? Just break out some cold beer and that and the steak is all the dinner I need on a summer night.
My husband hates the propane grill, so he uses strictly charcoal briquettes. About the time he starts the briquettes is when I start the sides. It works pretty well.
…and to continue the lesson: the meat has to rest, away from the heat source, while tightly covered, for at least 20 minutes to half and hour…then the steak will be tender, and just the right donness for everyone’s taste.
The reason well done steaks taste tough is that people took them off the grill too late, and didn’t let them rest.
The reason rare steaks bleed is the same, they weren’t rested so that the juices would stay in the steak…
So in real life, the twenty minutes or half an hour is just enough time to get other stuff ready and to set the table.
This happens all the time at my house… “I’m going to grill the steaks now, so please steam the vegetables now”…. “Sure, will do..” Then the steaks are done, I bring them in and others are still sitting there looking at their phones… with a “Did you see (whatever stupid political nonsense du jour)”…..
I remember last time we tried to cook steaks, my daughter’s man did or the grill, oh done all right like leather. Also past few days I posted not knowing how to do ribs. Thanks to all the comments of helping me. For me to spread a rub as BBQ sauce that has vinegar, I cannot tolerate, so hubby came with idea foil on the grill to poke holes to keep charcoal flames down, I think we BBQ ribs little too long, no fat. Learning still what needs done, we did not use marinate on the ribs. Leg quarters came out okay.
Here at our house, I advise the wife when I start the fire and she knows it will be 33-34 minutes until they are done, then I give her a 12-minute warning when I put the steaks on, and a 5 minutes more warning when I turn them.

Just stick them in the oven at 160 degrees (F).

Well, dam. Now we have to put them in the oven and let them dry out for a half hour.

Wrap those steaks in foil, and give Elly a little motivation!

Man grilling rule #1: Eat the steaks then skip all the “healthy” woman food … take a nap!

Total lack of communication there, eh?

Like on King of the Hill where the dad was showing his son how to cook steaks (on a propane grill), of course
Hank Hill: “Yep, nice and brown on the outside, with a little bit of pink on the inside. A good medium rare steak.”
Bobby Hill: “What if someone wants theirs well done, Dad?”
Hank: “I tell them firmly but politely to get off my property.”

This would not happen in my house. DH doesn’t touch the grill. He lacks the “grill genes”.

That’s why I always have the wife tell me when to start grilling.
