I wonder if the kid’s name is Pierre.

We took a trip to South Dakota a few years ago, before dad passed, and it is an interesting state. We went there to tour the Minuteman Missile National Park, and had a good week.

During the Cuban Missile Crisis, dad was working for Boing, on the setup of the Minuteman launch centers.

Wonder if the Capital is Deadwood, in the Black Hills? (Doris would know). Or maybe Yankton, on the southern border?

50 years after I began teaching and we’re reading one of the first student/teacher conversations I experienced. And it definitely was not the last of its kind.

Assigned a short story to read overnight. One student very smugly replied, ‘I don’t read a lot.’ I suggested the one letter grade he would earn with that attitude only required knowing the first 6 letters of the alphabet and discarding A thru E. Don’t remember now if he ever figured it out before reports were issued, but his grade made it clear.

For most of my life I pronounced the name of the capitol incorrectly. The pronunciation of the capitol sounds like peer.

There should only be one Dakota – they still won’t have enough population for a proper state.

Once a year it could be Sturgis.

I thought the capital of s. Dakota was an S.

Oh, right, Bismark is the other one.

North Dakota once proposed a contest to come up with a new state name. The idea didn’t catch on. So I never submitted my suggestion “Baja Canada”.

Notice that we’ve got norths and souths for the Dakotas and Carolinas, but only one west for the Virginias. Seems kinda like an oversight, doesn’t it? A quick glance at a map suggests that maybe there should be an east and west Michigan.

It’s Pierre, but pronounced peer. Alexa cannot get this right!

But pronounce the name correctly. Pier, not pee-air.
