Frazz by Jef Mallett for July 10, 2012
Transcript:
Caulfield: There's a few weeds poking out of the parking lot at giantway. Frazz: yeah? Caulfield: Yeah. So bag this and go for a bike ride. Frazz: I like your conclusion, but I'm not sure how you got there. Caulfield: If three acres of asphalt can;t keep the weeds down, you;re wasting your time with that little bottle.

I think it is <=> Which is one of the logical notation symbols if I remember correct, like the little pyramidal stack of dots.
vishooter over 12 years ago
<=> means “logical or material equivalence.” If A is true, then B is true. If A is false, then B is false. Or that A is the same as B and may be used interchangeably. Weeds growing despite much asphalt means weeds will grow despite a little asphalt so go take a ride and quit wasting your time. The flaw in Caulfield’s logic is that there may not be any weed treatment being applied at Giantway.

I tried some organic weed killer and all it did was make them greener.

There’s a certain amount of mad logic to that.

Organic is over rated. Go for the killer – Ortho’s “Kills All”®

Used motor oil keeps them down. Works great for cracks in asphalt.

I’m disappointed Frazz is using weed killer.

Amen! He should know better. Round-Up is deadly to all of life.

Our shools ban all poisons – herbicides, pesticides, whatever. New state initiative, I think.

Normally, I agree with his “logic”, but I think he’s just looking for an excuse for Caulfield to give up.

So what is better? pulling or spraying?
feanorr over 12 years ago
White Vinegar is as effective as Round-Up, but doesn’t cause birth defects!

I cannot imagine Frazz using poison on anything!! Please, Jef, tell us you don’t use it either! Ortho, Monsanto…evil horrible companies, PLEASE do not support them.
I pour vinegar on my crabgrass, it will kill anything.

I don’t care which, pulling or spraying…I won’t fight with you… altho I confess I like to avoid places where weeds have been sprayed. I’m sensitive to the stuff…I think everybody is but doesn’t notice…I don’t like how I feel around it.
Picking up a container of it that hasn’t been opened seems ok, but I’ve never held one of them more than a second or sowhen a bud asked me to hand it to HIM…I suppose, seriously ethically, I should have refused and preached to him, but I’m not big on screwing with other peoples’ chosen lifestyles. If he’d been apologetic about it, I’d have re-inforced his qualms, but he didn’t. And an unopened container of the stuff doesn’t bother me, but in the open nearby it does.
Frazz is NUTS to be using the stuff. And THAT’S what it affects, too.

Actually, this is the ultimate in recycling. Oil comes from the earth, and he is returning it there. (Snarc).

Uh, what’s asphalt made of?

“<=>” could also be read as simply “less is more”.
ealeseth over 12 years ago
Boiling hot water sometimes works. It must cook the roots. Vinegar also works sometimes – not sure why. We were allowed to use vinegar to clean off student desks – because it’s a food, and was used in the cafeteria.
Ooten Aboot over 12 years ago
You mathematicians overthink eveything. Frazz’s <=> shirt means “less is more”.

If you’re talking about weeds that are in the cracks in your pavement, concrete, sidewalks, driveways, etc. the BEST weedkiller is boiling water, and it’s safe for the environment! >^..^<
