When I was roughnecking (derrick hand) in the Texas oilfield in the 1970’s, I had a large steak, a full pound of potatoes, and a whole can of corn for every meal. I was lean and hard. That job requires , and builds, extremely hard muscle and fast reflexes. Many football players worked there during their off season to get in shape. That’s why Texas and Oklahoma were such football powerhouses.
Frazz is right. Decades after my stint as a varsity interior lineman, a server at a buffet was moved to comment that he had “never seen a normal sized person eat so much.”
I went to a new burger place this past Thursday that took over our old Dairy Queen and sat by a table that had 5 college basketball players around it eating. Each one had a double meat cheeseburger combo (sandwich, drink , fries) and a second double meat cheeseburger!
I’m not sure why they assume someone enjoying an activity is fantasizing about doing something else. Not everything is as boring as running. When I play catch, I think about where the ball is headed (catching) and putting it on target (throwing).
I remember playing catch and all I “fantasized” about was having fun with my friend/father/son/grandson. Why does it have to be anything more than that?
Football is really a TEAM sport. You can fake soccer with only a single kid just by kicking around a bundle of rags. You can play pickup basketball with just 1-on-1. But about the only way you can do anything with a football that involves only a few people is throw it back and forth.

Most of us tailgaters play catch because even flag football is too organized… and takes too many people to have a decent game.

No, Kid, they’re just loosening up for the game and maybe remembering when they were younger and life was more fun.

Fantasize about getting out of their aluminum folding webbing chairs. (For seconds) The double beer can hat and tubing may be holding them down.

Taking a swipe at football fans… I have a feeling ol’ Scherz may have something to say about that!

They’re not necessarily fantasizing about anything. Some folks just like playing catch.

To paraphrase Freud, sometimes a game of catch is just a game of catch.

In front of every great tailback is a great offensive line. The tailback only needs to run through the hole his linemen create.
A great secondary needs a great defensive line. Without pressure from the line today’s quarterbacks will complete almost every throw.

As my dad used to say, the Right Guard takes care of the offensive scenter. (Think about it)
