Actually, the stench of tobacco can carry over a hundred meters. The Viet Cong could spell your stench even though you were perfectly camouflaged.

I once tried all three sides of of a table and the smoke went straight to me. Why not to the people who crave the toxins?

I don’t now if its perception or age – 50 years ago I was comfortable as the only non-smoker in a crowded room. Now, any scent of smoke makes me uncomfortable.

When Pot becomes legal in Canada this fall I bet there wont be too many people complaining about getting smoke all over them.

I smoked a pack and a half a day of unfiltered cigarettes for 13 years. Quit ‘cold turkey’ 50 years ago. The scent of cigarette smoke in the air or on someone’s clothes almost make me gag. Stupidest thing I ever did was to take up smoking.

I quit in the mid 80’s when they outlawed smoking inside government buildings (I was working at the Pentagon at the time). It was easy enough for me because I was never addicted to the stuff. That could be why I’d much rather smell cigarette smoke than the perfume or aftershave that some folks feel they need to swim in before going out in public.

And I may also have been in a minority in that I never dropped butts on the ground when I smoked. I field stripped and pocketed the filters for later disposal. So, not all smokers were litter bugs (just far too many).

My wife has asthma, both cigarette smoke and cologne bothers her but cologne is much worse. Smelling someone’s cologne from 10 feet away for 30 seconds will cause her trouble breathing for days.
