The boys aren’t having much fun here. Kinda like being dragged along while the girl is shopping. However Gunther and Knute have legitimate hope. I don’t see Tiffany &. Ox as an item – ever.

And I must also say that “Luann” is so much different than the other strips in the lively and varied posters here… other strips, people aren’t allowed to sneeze in the wrong way, much less present things the way that we all do… we’ve got practical, straight shooters…. there’s acerbic wit…. there’s point/counterpoint… there’s many styles of humor and anecdote… the very rational, the zany… yep, a few strips have some really good forums, but none like here….

Hi to Leviticus…Thank you very much for the background. It is great to hear someone’s story. I am not new to Luann—I have been a fan since the 1993 or so—but I am new to the online funnies. I signed up a couple years ago and discovered I enjoy reading the comments almost as much as the comic. Hope you and everybody here has a wonderful long Labor Day weekend!

he’s facing thw wrong way!

I never was very good at being a “girl,” I guess. Hah! I would never act like them if I could be fighting…

Yesterday many people herein were claiming that Tiffany was being dismissive of Ox and was not interested in his attentions. Today, though, we see that she is in fact willing to ride on his shoulders in the pool. Could the Evanses now be willing for us to consider Ox and Tiff in fact to be a couple, just like the other two in today’s strip? Or have these last two day’s strips been an anomaly, and they will find some way to pull the rug out from under Tiffany by taking away her relationship with Ox? That’s what they did when they tried to take away Tiff’s success as the lead actress in the play this summer, by adding a strip to say that she was at the camp in the first place just because she was “sponsored”?

The Tiffany I k ow would never get on Ox’s shoulders and secondly would not be having such a cordial conversation with Rosa. I think her moment with Quill, and subsequent loss to Luann, at drama camp maybe made her realize that she was a bit too self centered and she has committed to change. Even yesterday she was polite to Ox and looked him in the eye as he spoke with her. Tiffany often speaks while staring off into the distance.

Lev, nice reflection, life, and perspective. Having somewhat retired recently, I love my time spent reading posts and especially reading the daily Luann. Followed back a strip reference yesterday and see you left comments in your reading of the archives. Hope to get to more archives, even find where I started reading some six to eight years ago. I have loved this swim arc. Evans saving the reveal of Luann for the end? Would be anticlimactic without quill showing up as a surprise, as some have said. Or maybe the surprise with Luann will be something about bern, as something is brewing there.

these girls are like 16 or 17, why do they NEED makeup? Especially in a pool?

They should dunk all three of them. That should get the party started.

Luann was in last Sunday’s strip. She wore mascara into the pool, and it was dripping. All week, posters have been commenting on how the black coloring shown in the water must have been from Luann’s makeup, even though it is probably the colorist’s technique for showing contrast in the water for those papers that run the comic in black and white.

Before this arc, I used to think that Knute was a creative, interesting character. Now, my impression is totally different. He seems to be, at best, stuck in his ways and insistant that his way of having fun is the only way, and at most, a very controlling person. Ox is not someone who is bullied and forced to do something he doesn’t want to do (as shown by his behavior toward Ann Eiffel), and Ox is not upset that the girls are talking instead of pushing and ‘shrieking’. So why is Knute so upset?

I still have a difficult time picturing Crystal and Knute as an item…she’s just got more class than he. Glad to see that she did put on a bathing suit, however, and got in on thefun… I can’t imagine how this arc will wrap up, haven’t aclue… ;)

Since Tuesday is back-to-school, Quill had better show up in this strip in the next 3 days if he is in fact going to do a third senior year, taking advantage of Pitt’s world-class educational system. Let’s hope that more reasonable heads prevailed and he stayed in Oz, but since this is “Luann”, I wouldn’t bet on it.

Maybe Knute is upset, and the other guys look glum, because the gals have been yabbering about makeup and such for half an hour now, and Knute is just saying what the other two are thinking.

Can’t help but think that Ox is going to have a crush on Tiff now, if he didn’t before. That’d be a different kind of arc—someone with a crush on Tiff instead of Luann for a change.

Yes, I do remember the ill-fated short (12-minute) nonrelationship Gunther thought he had with Tiff. That was a while ago. Time for a real crush on Tiff, and to see what happens. I like Tiff and Ox, but I can’t see them going together—he’d hate her usual persona, and she clearly doesn’t care about him “that way.” This lovely little interlude with Tiff and Ox is a natural one, and so was the incident when he chased Les away for her. But how they could get together any more, and have it look natural, I don’t know.

Me too—she could easily be the most interesting character in the strip if Evans just developed her character a bit. And depending on what he did with it, of course.

Totally off topic here, but does anyone else think it’s odd that we’ve never seen anyone else in the DeGroot family except Frank, Nancy, Brad and Luann? Oh, and one Christmas long ago there were three strips with (I think) Nancy’s parents, who came to the house for Christmas. That’s it that I’ve noticed. No other grandparent appearance, no uncles, aunts, or cousins. I realize it’s hard to work relatives in, but it just struck me a while ago that there’s (almost) =never= anyone else in the family.

Only downside of that game- which I remember well- is that the guys have to stay in the water for half an hour after.

Why would we want to see any more details about Tiffany? She is your typical cliche of an air-head, lazy, blonde cheerleader type. There are already three main characters to develop further, which are more than nearly all other strips.

That is incomprehensible. Gunth goes with her, he stands a chance of being normal. If he refuses, he should become a monk.

So, unless I am misinterpreting, you stated that if a high schooler does not make out (engage in sexual behavior), he should become a monk?

Greg Evans may have missed a golden opportunity to show the processes whereby 1) Rosa convinced Gunther to let her sit on his shoulders, 2) Knute convinced Crystal to take her sheer garment off and risk getting wet by sitting on his shoulders, and 3) the conversation whereby Tiffany agreed to sit on Ox’s shoulders after having turned him down earlier. Any of these arcs would have been quite interesting.

Tiffany turned down Ox’s offer to pick her up over his head and toss her into the pool. Probably she said “No” out of safety concerns, not out of a dislike for Ox. On the contrary, when Tiff told him it was “sweet” of him to ask, I believe she was completely sincere. Tiff is unaccustomed to being treated so courteously, since generally her classmates don’t regard her as a serious person.

They had to skip the awkward part where Gunther hems and haws about Rosa’s asking whether she can wrap her legs around his neck, since that probably went on for 2 or 3 hours. School starts Tuesday, so the Evanses needed to speed the party along to wrap it up this weekend.

There is no need for these types of ugly, cowardly comments. You must be an ineffective and unhappy person (possibly because you are the one who is jobless) so you feel the need to write nasty, anonymous comments in order to feel better about yourself.
