On my phone, calls are under “beep” (which sounds like a regular phone ring) and messages “message tone 3.”

Many moons ago, I made new wav files to replace all my AOL default sounds., and people used to exchange the more interesting ones in the chat rooms of the day.It was very creative.I even had the sound of a two-stroke engine starting for when my PC was booting up.

Remember when cell phone tones playing a tune was “novel” for the time? And now, you’ve got all kinds of special sounds… though many of us are content with just the 80 sounds that come with the phone, LOL!

I’ve been meaning to change my whoosh for texts because my (very popular) son uses it for his texts. When he walks in the room, I start hearing whooshes like crazy and think it’s my phone until I realize they’re all for him of course.

" . . . it is the old fashioned telephone bell."

I love that one! I had it for a while, but too many other people use it, so I had to change it. The problem is, I’m deaf in one ear so I can’t tell where sounds are coming from, so it was confusing for me when I’d hear other phones with that ringtone and I would think it was mine.

Since I kind of hate cell phone alerts, I recorded myself sighing and use that. The ring tone, however, is Ghostbusters. Though I don’t hear it much because I only give people my landline number (which just rings).

My wife had an assigned ringtone for our daughter of her saying, “Mom! Mom? Mom!”, which repeated after a short pause. During a visit to the physical therapist, my wife was involved in getting manipulated, the daughter called, and one of the techs ended up shouting into the wife’s purse, “She’s in a treatment right now!”

I was watching part of an (unmemorable) sy-fy movie the other day and they played a background sound effect that was just like the ringer on my AT&T phone, the handset of which was, of course, in the next room. After checking for the call and finding none had come in, I rewound the DVR ro where I’d left the room and there it was AGAIN!Good thing I was carrying the phone at this point, so I wasn’t fooled a second time.

I think I dropped my cell phone one too many times…has lousy reception at the receiver’s phone. All scrambled up and such. My current cell is just your basic phone, no texting (although it Can receive them) or special stuff. Just a “Plain Jane.” Now I have to make a decision to see if I should just get another “Plain Jane” one, or should I squeeze my eyes (and wallet) open and buy a smartphone? (I don’t like phones that are smarter than I am!). Decisions, decisions… =-O
