Just like my elephants in the tub bit — it did not make sense, nor was it supposed to. A group used to hear it ad laugh, all at the expense of the unknowing that it was not a real joke, and they went crazy trying to figure out the humor of it, when it was simply a practical ruse!

Microwave popcorn usually takes 2- 2.5 minutes.

Bernice needs to step up her game as an adviser … she’s got a student (if indeed he is a student) who is giving off signals that he doesn’t have a regular place to eat or a meal plan, but she doesn’t seem to be picking up on those signals.

Guessing they will end up dating.

Microwave popcorn isn’t a meal. Top ramen, now that’s a meal.

When my boys were in college, they lived on “Death Dogs” (7-11 cheese, chili and jalapeno hot dogs, two for 99 cents).

Dinner? Real nice.

The problem with microwave popcorn is that one (small) bag is not enough for a complete meal for a growing boy!I feel sympathetic to Piro and hope Bernice will help straighten him out….

I lived off Budget Burgers which was a hamburger, fries and a cool aid type cherry drink for 50 cents. I felt sick after awhile. Piro is eking it out a lot worse than I did.

He’ll be seen leaving Bernice’s room after curfew and that will lead to problems for Bernice.

Now they are sharing a couch. We will see what they’re doing next tomorrow. This could get interesting.

She should have turned him out right away. If he needs a place to “hang,” that’s not her problem. And if his roommate has a visitor in violation of house rules, then she should turn out that visitor, too.

Piro doesn’t show much interest in Bernice, he is just looking for a place to hang out.

I actually had a guy like this hang out at college and I felt sorry for him for about 2 days. Finally felt he was his own problem and kicked him out,. Saw him later with some other cute girl. With Piro, by help I meant contacting some social worker or something to get him aid. That’s all. No overnights. It was a bad idea for me and for her.

slow story…but it better be about opposites attracting and Bernice learning to loosen up. Jeez….

Anyone else still trying to figure out last Sunday’s strip?

I think it is funny how so many folks are suggesting Piro is homeless, is destitute, may not be a student, etc.While any of the above might potentially be true, my take on the situation is vastly different:I think Piro is (like many students I recall from my own, long-distant, dorm days) a student who is a “moocher”. He likes being taken care of, he likes “bumming around”. Hell, I would suspect in my own scenario that he has a room or apartment somewhere, perhaps far enough away, that he finds it more appealing to bum around with friends. In my own mind’s eye, I envision Piro as having potentially great wealth (in his family background)… and that the “poor” living is by choice at the moment.Students who were like how I am envisioning Piro were fairly common at the U I attended. They were free to do pretty much any damn thing they pleased, and with the family wealth to back it up, did not have to take much seriously…. and often did not do so… but had a lot of fun acting seedy, drifting around, etc. 7

Conning stupid college kids. Sure beats the Walmart parking lot gig.

2:19 is the magic number on my microwave.

Of course they do, but how interesting would that be? :-)

" Takes 156 seconds in my microwave oven"*NG – to minimize the oils & salt, I use 1/4 cup of plain kernels in a brown paper bag and set it for 2 min 40 seconds. (AFterwards, sprinkle with a little salt or grated cheese if you want)

Frankly, I’m getting a little tired of SO MANY characters in this strip! I need a list to keep up!

Neither of them, Piro or Bern, feels threatened by the other and they’re comfortable making straight up no-nonsense remarks to each other without concern for being insulting. Bern does like the rough bad boy look in a guy, e.g. Zane who looked similar to Piro (facial features). Gunther became interesting when he returned from Peru w/ a beard but he may not have the street smarts and independent streak that Bern may favor.
