Luann by Greg Evans and Karen Evans for November 20, 2015
Transcript:
Pru: Quill said you teach kids! Love kids, so funny, and you sing?! You're amazing! Pru: Oh! I love your parents! You're all adorable! honestly? I was so nervous to meet you. But you're a doll! Don't know what I was worried about! Pru: I actually sat in my car outside acting out what to say! Crazy, right? Luann: Yeah. Who'd do that?
JayBluE about 9 years ago
So…. all of this drama is actually Quill’s fault! Going around and telling people super nice things about the people he knows…-The moral of this story? Don’t be so positive and optimistic! Yes! I’m positive that this is it
Argythree about 9 years ago
Pru is the extroverted type sometimes found in theater (but a surprising number of introverts end up there, too. They say they feel more comfortable playing someone else.)
Meanwhile, in the background, evidence of TJ’s classy taste…

My, Pru is quite a talkaholic without giving Luann much chance to respond positively if you ask me.
Argythree about 9 years ago
I don’t think Pru would let Lu get a word in edgewise…

Pru looks rather middle-aged to me… or is it just the dark lipstick?
luann1212 about 9 years ago
She is a theater type person people! They love to talk, are prepossing (sorry for the spelling), love life, can be exasperating, and extremely creative, love people (usually), no wonder Quill likes her, and I am sure Luann will as well. All of this is coming together.

I real life some people you know come off as “cartoon characters.” The Evans method seems to involve making all the supporting characters second-order cartoon characters. I suppose that it make his just plain cartoon characters seem a bit more real. But it does make for a universe where everyone is either dull or bizarre.
lsheldon about 9 years ago
I’m not one to much comment on comic strips as if they were real life, but as a card-carrying male I will testify that if Pru has captured Quill, Luann should be thankful that she dodged a bullet.

As was said on Allen’s Alley (old time radio): “Your tongue’s wagging faster than a hound-dog’s tail in a meat market!”

Must come with being an artsy theatre type.

Pru never stops to breathe, Lu can’t get a word in edgewise ..
Sisyphos about 9 years ago
Eventually, the motormouth will run down and need to pause for nourishment. That will be Luann’s chance to say something—if only she had something to say….Go, Pru.
You do realize that with Pru as narrator this strip will double its speed of progress?
gazperson about 9 years ago
People are still speculating on who Pru reminds them of. She really reminds me of an apocryphal Australian showbiz personality called Mavis Bramston, played by actresses in a satirical weekly TV show in the 1960s (called The Mavis Bramston Show). The show had ended, I’m pretty sure, by the time of Greg’s sojourn to Australia in 1973-74, but memories might still have been fresh. Could Greg have encountered the Mavis image and turned her into Pru 40 years later?
(Sorry. I don’t seem to have the skills of some other posters here to incorporate an actual image into my comment.)

Okay This “Gal” is a FAKE.
How do I Know?
“She” Knows Waaaaaay too much about the DeGroot Clan for someone that’s just shown up.
“She” is EASILY Impressed by the Most MUNDANE of Things.
And, (And THIS Is Important) NO Red-Blooded Male, Foreign OR Domestic, Could be Friends With Or STAND to Be Around THIS Annoying “Chatter-Box” for More Than 5 Seconds before His Head would Completely EXPLODE!!!
Okay Pretty-Boy. The “Act” is OVER. Take OFF That Dress and Frumpy Hat, and Explain to Your Soon-to-be-Ex Girlfriend WHY You just made a FOOL of Her.

Titles for the strip running through my head
1) Full court press2) Shock and Awe3) Don’t mind me … it’s just nerves4) Who?! are you?? – Really?5) Verbal assault6) Dancing as fast as I can.
If this is the real prudence, I’d be surprised. Too much…
AndreaR about 9 years ago
Am I the only one who looks at Pru and instantly thinks “Katharine Hepburn”?
ACTIVIST1234 about 9 years ago
So it’s at least part nerves. I’ll buy that, Pru. I talk a lot when nervous too.
Nicole ♫ ⊱✿ ◕‿◕✿⊰♫ Premium Member about 9 years ago
She sounds sweet so far. It’s nice to know they were both all nerves over this meeting. Actually, I learned that admitting nervousness is actually a good ice breaker since most everyone can identify.

What can I say. I like Pru.

Bring in Tiffany. More drama please.
capricorn9th about 9 years ago
Uh-oh. In Luann universe, black lipsticks equals to a villain. Remember Ann from Weiner World? Pru is a villain and that will come out sooner or later. Pru knows how to act warmly and friendly – after all she is in acting world. Watch for when she will struck.
locake about 9 years ago
So where IS Quill? It is odd that he was right next to Pru a minute ago, but left when Luann got there. It seems like he would be there to introduce the women.
Argy.Bargy2 about 9 years ago
-@locake
I can’t get the reply function to work.
And I agree with you that it’s odd that Quill has suddenly disappeared, after Luann heard a conversation between Quill and Pru. But I don’t think Pru is Quill. Too many physical differences…
jrankin1959 about 9 years ago
“Otherwise, she’s basically Jar-Jar Binks.”That’s cold. ;-)
Argy.Bargy2 about 9 years ago
-As long as they remain regardless of what they say they must still like it
Normally, I would agree with that comment. But I’ve read the comments on the Luann board at ArcaMax. Most of those posters can’t stand the ’toon. They stay because they enjoy talking to each other, and trying to outdo each other with outrageous posts…
Argy.Bargy2 about 9 years ago
-Arcamax! that troll haven
I know I shouldn’t do this, and I am not meaning to step in the middle of an ongoing conversation that has nothing to do with me. But there is someone posting on ArcaMax at the Luann board who is using your identical screen name. If that isn’t you, maybe you should flag that poster, because he (she) posts some, uh, amazing statements…
keema70 about 9 years ago
The thing that seemed odd to me was that Pru said that she was nervous about meeting Luann.
beachlvr Premium Member about 9 years ago
Quill is madly in Love with two women. Not the first time in history that’s happened. Open your eyes, Luann.

“I actually sat in my car outside catching my breath for 30 seconds before I came in! Crazy, huh?”
RSH about 9 years ago
Pru is made to look like the typical Bohemian style (in terms of dress) Brooklyn girl, even the hat.. though it might seem a little over the top (no pun intended).

“Gets off on it” is a very childish thing to say, please don’t do it again.
ACTIVIST1234 about 9 years ago
" the rest of these characters are all one-dimensional "*Imp- you always have interesting things to say, but as I remember from high school geometry, we cannot see anything in one dimension, which is a line without any breadth.
Caldonia about 9 years ago
Okay. Then you’ve both been childish, him for putting it out there and you for agreeing.
Caldonia about 9 years ago
Night-Gaunt, please don’t say “Get off on it.” It’s childish.
Airman about 9 years ago
Miss Prudie makes me think of Boots Randolph’s old tune, “Yakety Sax.”
JayBluE about 9 years ago
I know who Prudence reminds me of: Bette Midler. Last panel, she has Bette Midler eyes.^You sure they’re not Bette Davis’?
JayBluE about 9 years ago
Well, i was actually intending my statement about Quill and the “moral” to be a “double dose of irony”. Yup, to be truthful, I wasn’t trying to be literal with that "moral"to, at all.. quite the opposite…
JayBluE about 9 years ago
It’s getting so that one cannot sneeze without the word “harassment”, “insult” and others getting bandied about, at the slightest sniffle…
Jim Kerner about 9 years ago
To Brdshtt: At least Minnie appears to be smarter than Pru.
JayBluE about 9 years ago
And to go with that, all the other words that I ran across this past week in some peoples’ posts, some of them being actual curse words, nobody seemed to “bat an eye” about those, huh?

And it’s not nice to look at trainwrecks, literally and figuratively. It’s hard to look away? My goodness, I hope I am not driving near someone who finds it hard to look away when an unfortunate accident occurs. There’s nothing funny about trainwrecks or any wrecks. This is a family strip. How is a father going to explain to his son that the upside down flaming locomotive is not an object of morbid curiosity when the little lad says, “but Father, I read in the comments section of the Luann comic strip that it is hard to look away from such things!” The poor stressed Father has to think quickly. “Son, the Creator gave us neck muscles and eyelids that are in our control. If it is hard to look away then dig deep down and find the compassion that gives you the strength and willpower to do what is right. Look away, my son, look away.”What has this world come to?
thefloyd about 9 years ago

Is anybody still questioning the neckline/necklace ambiguity? I looked closely at the original art and peeled back a layer. The necklace is perfectly coincidental with the edge of the yellow top. I know what the medallion looks like and I ain’t tellin’.
jrankin1959 about 9 years ago
I know – let’s fix Prudence up with Luann’s art teacher! (“Of all mad matches, never was the like!”)
Caldonia about 9 years ago
Nice try, but no….still childish.
Caldonia about 9 years ago
I did tell Night-Gaunt it was childish, or did you skip that one? I haven’t been here all day, so whatever.
Takagi-san about 9 years ago
Why are new characters so hard to draw? Reminds me of that art lady with the confused perspective face/chin. And where are her eyebrows? Wow, hard to look at. Oh, and the strip the other day was insulting to Luann in a big way, suggesting she wouldn’t feel threatened is Pru was short and less attractive. I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again- Luann has turned into Tiffany, but less likable.
Caldonia about 9 years ago
Why do I do what? Your post is grammatically nonsensical.
R.J.C. about 9 years ago
Pru doesn’t have eyebrows.
gazperson about 9 years ago
The very face — and one of them (the TV Week cover) was one of the very images I was trying to paste! Thank you so much. Do you see the resemblance to Pru?
JayBluE about 9 years ago
Ha Ha!, Exactly!
JayBluE about 9 years ago
Spoiler, the sequel: cue the doink! Sound effect, with several question marks…

You’re assuming the people in the “trainwreck” (if indeed you’re alluding to this here comic strip} want or need your help. Leave the rescuing, if there’s any to be had, to the pros.
