I see Gunther has decided to keep his clean- shaved look. I wonder if that’s an indication that he’s also decided to leave the bad attitude behind? The scruffy look and sullenness somehow seemed to go hand-in-hand.
They’re STILL saying “Mr.” and “Mrs.”? You’d think that a married couple would be using their first names … it’s not like “the kids” don’t know what they are.
I really thought we were done with Les and Gunthie for awhile. They are absolutely my least favorite characters in the strip. Luann seems to be relegated to minor appearance on Sunday. Brad and Tony are just sidemen for Shannon. I am losing interest in this rapidly. I have always enjoyed this strip, but it’s getting tedious.
I’m still thinking about Tiff. Ann Awful is going to use that selfie to promote her fake lingerie and put Tiff as an endorsement at the least. the guys seem to have calmed down after pulling that “animal house” stunt. Irma seems to be what was needed.
Green turtleneck? When he shaved, did he throw out the graph-paper shirts, too? (A bigger change would have been just to wear a regular shirt but with the collar unbuttoned.)
Ahhhhhh, what a nice idyllic dinner scene! If you were to go back in time 70 years ago you could put this lovely dinner setting right on the cover of the Saturday Evening Post! I mean just look at the rich vibrant colors in Panel one. Forget the coloring in that “Monster Truck” Arc. TODAY, Sheriff, you outdid Yourself!
Mrs. Gray? You SHOULD take a ‘selfie’ of this cherished but brief moment of peace. A peace that will soon be shattered by the arrival of a certain helmet head blonde. Hopefully she’ll knock on the Grays door. And maybe, she’ll sit down, fill that empty space in Panel one between Irma and Gunther, have dinner, and tell EVERYONE at the table about what Ann just did. And while Les is Predictably shrieking like a chimp, Uncle Al can come up with a plan to END this Eiffel Madness once and for all.
But No. Tiffany will probably NOT show up until the lads are back in the Gulag again. And if she shows up, she’ll probably give Gunth the brush off with a “I’m here for Les.” Then as Les gloats, “folks” can comment on how “moody” Gunther is……, :)
This odd little family unit seems to be getting along better. Unlike some posters today I don’t think Les is being mean to Uncle Al. He seems to be joshing him about his cooking and at the same time showing his appreciation for Irma’s talents in the kitchen. Even Gunther seems pretty chill. I don’t like the new clean shaven look on him as much as I did the stubble but if he loses the surly overbearing attitude then I’ll say it’s an improvement.
I’m betting this start will intersect with last two weeks. Hopefully to advance, or at lease alleviate, Tiff’s plight. That could fill a couple of weeks. Then a couple of weeks of Shannon and The Sacchrines; Christmas decorating, shopping, Christmas stocking gags, etc.
AND THEN GnK could swing into an arc for Jack and Luann’s First Christmas together. :o)
New arc, not much to comment, although maybe dysfunctional families are part of the idea here. Tom, Tiffany and Ann, now Les, Gunther and the Grays. Who would have thunk it? But as someone said in a support meeting I went to, and was very right, totally functional families are as rare as hens teeth. I mean from Rupert Murdoch and his sons, to Queen Elizabeth and her brood (she has been working on trying to get her grandchildren to be less troubled in their marriages than her children, when you look at it) to just the average middle to economically poor families dysfunction is more likely than the White American Cleaver ideal (don’t get mad, I promised this forum I would not include my left-wing critical race theory point of view, and this is not that, just a fact); around Thanksgiving too, our national holiday where those dysfunctional families nevertheless get together because they are “family.” Maybe there is a message in that.
Gunther was halfway toward full manhood with his semi-macho stubble, but he’s clearly given up on masculinity and embraced his role as Leslie’s nagging wife. There’ll never be any grandkids for Mr. and Mrs. Gray.
Argy/Dreamer has expressed disappointment on that “other” site (The one that some people won’t be caught DEAD at) that Tiffany didn’t quit school, put all of her money in a savings account, that “daddy” couldn’t touch and move to Hollywood or Broadway and jump start the career she’s always wanted. And Argy makes a good point.
But does Tiffany have any REAL acting “talent?” We all know what she WANTS to do, but is she really any good at it? Remember, Luann once beat her out handily for the part in West Side Story. And when Tiff “starred” in that “Eyes of Zeye” movie, all of her scenes ended up on the cutting room floor. Tiffany’s “skills” in so far as “acting” is concerned, may all be in her head. If she went to Hollywood, she may return, like so many, disillusioned and broke.
Tiffany would, IMHO, be much better in the fashion industry. She SHOULD contact Simone, CEO of Souffle Lingerie and either get a job in Paris or better still be the exclusive US Distributor of Souffle Lingerie. Maybe even coming up with a “plus sized” Souffle line, with Her as the spokesperson/model.
Let her disappear from the Strip for a few months and return Opening the American Souffle Line, not in LA or New York but in the town of Pitts. That way she can show her dad what she can do on her own, plus making Ann uncomfortable at the same time.
With today’s arc and last weeks lasso of Tiffany by Ann Eiffel, could we possibly be heading to the dinner party I envisioned with Irma, Al, Ann & Tom, Gunther, Les and Tiffany. If Tiffany is involved with Les at the time, maybe Gunther could beg Luann to accompany him. That would represent extreme generosity on Luann’s part and it would be impressive if Luann handled it well. Of course that would be for one evening only, as Luann is interested in Jack.
I realize that the Evanses are the creators of this strip and have their own story and character preferences but I must say that recent arcs have been going back and forth between all of my least favorite characters. I’d love to see some arcs dealing with Piro’s backstory, how Knute and Crystal are getting along both in the arts and with each other, Dez encouraging Bernice to experience some of the more counter culture aspects of college life (heck, at least take her and possibly Luann to Burning Man), more about the dorm folks, maybe give T.J. a more serious arc of his own and some more character development, and giving Brad and Toni a major storyline about something other than Shannon. They’re firefighters, for heaven’s sakes – they put their lives on the line every day and California has been a tinder box this season.
