I grew up on a farm and had always lived out amongst the farmers and fields until moving into town a couple of years ago. I’d seen this “ding dong ditch” ringing the doorbell then running away trick on TV but was surprised when some of the local kids did it to us! I happened to be standing by a window that overlooked our courtyard and watched the little rascals run up, ring the bell then run away giggling lol. I would’ve thought kids had more entertaining things to do these days
I have noticed that in these strips from 1952, Schulz is quite inconsistent on the weather. I went back and looked at the strips that have run on GC from January 1 to today. These strips originally ran during winter from January 31 to March 1 of 1952. Fifteen of the strips take place inside. Of those that show evidence of the season outdoors, 4 are winter (ice and snow), 4 appear to be Autumn (kids are wearing jackets), and 8 are summer (kids are in short sleeves).
Even as a kid I thought this was stupid. I went to a birthday party where someone mentioned doing it. Everyone else thought it would be great. I went home.

Ding Dong Ditch! Ah…a favorite of mine back in the early 60s.

“Whom” indeed – wonder how many current readers, of any age, employ that kind of terminological exactitude?

Wow. Rapscallion behavior, yet grammatically fastidious. Although true perfection would be “From whom are we hiding?”

So was Charlie Brown outside and just running with Patty and Shermy when they ditched after ding-donging?

I think they were trying to prank you, Charlie Brown, but it seems you’ve turned the tables on them.

That fence doesn’t look very good for hiding behind!

The good side of losing your memory is you can hide your own Easter eggs. Also, you can tell yourself jokes and be surprised at the punchline.
