I usually like the pun strips, but (a) I could easily see this one coming, and (b) I hate that song.:Give me that mace, Rat — I want to take a few swings myself.

The pun is great! For the “Oldsters” who became adults in the 60’s, I believe the song causes an emotional twinge. I watched John Mayer sing it on Letterman (aired 4/17) and it still affects me. It is one of the few songs written after 1960 that even appeals to me.

I know that this has been brought up in the past, but apparently still needs explaining. Puns are just one form of word play. Another form of wordplay would be a spoonerism, such as “shook a tower” for “take a shower”, which is not a pun. Another play on words which is not a pun is such as “A noisy noise annoys an oyster”. An alliterative play on words: “Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers”. And there are other types of word play that are not puns. A pun is amusing, and often uses double meaning of a spoken word, such as “Atheism is a non-prophet institution”.
