Pearls Before Swine by Stephan Pastis for June 12, 2015
Transcript:
Pearls Before Unclean Animals. In deference to those who say cartoonists should refrain from depicting anything that could cause offense to others, today we delete all of the pearls characters who have ever cause offense to others. This could get boring. Yes, but its not offensive. Oh, what a better world!
haggerty3 almost 10 years ago
I think the Republicans and Fundamentalist will still find that offensive,
Tue Elung-Jensen almost 10 years ago
Not to mention the overtly p c people.
knight1192a almost 10 years ago
Ok, so Jeff the Cyclist, Vegan boy, and the comic censor have been deleted. Now let’s have more time for Guard Duck.
danfromfreddybeach almost 10 years ago
since when did goat or zebra or Larry’s kid cause offense?
Kymberleigh almost 10 years ago
Now if we could just delete Bucky the cat from “Get Fuzzy”.
solbane.sk almost 10 years ago
Bucky!
MikeBy62 almost 10 years ago
I have been in Xxxxx Xxxxxx for the past eight years and when I saw this I had to sign up for a GoComics account just to comment! It’s so true, even the nicest people you meet here think the same way.
Alexander the Good Enough almost 10 years ago
Well, Family Circus offends me!

Even when I was a child, Nancy insulted my intelligence. Very offensive. Still published, and I don’t care, but I won’t read it.
grampianlothian almost 10 years ago
ha ha , bang onBut are we allowed to laugh at this according to the PC brigade?

Or a bitter wold, at least.
ShadowBeast Premium Member almost 10 years ago
If we got rid of every little thing that offended someone there would be nothing left. It’d be easier to just get rid of the offended.

One man’s trash is another man’s treasure……………

Brilliant!
Mighty Phavahg almost 10 years ago
I am offended by those people who were offended by your non-offensive but hilarious comic strip.
whiteheron almost 10 years ago
Yet the strip titled the unclean characters, was their BO that offensive?
Carl Rennhack Premium Member almost 10 years ago
If a cartoonist is denied his or her right to express an opinion, I am being denied MY right to see that opinion! If “B” thinks that “A’s” viewpoint is wrong, “B” should say why he or she thinks “A” is wrong instead of trying to deny “A’s” freedom of expression!
dre7861 almost 10 years ago
Let me just say that I was very offended by the non-offensiveness of this strip.
Top that Cartoon Boy!
Sisyphos almost 10 years ago

“Garfield without Garfield” this is not.
Rev. Rick almost 10 years ago
I find this today’s strip to be offensive, by trying to be non-offensive.
angelfiredragon almost 10 years ago
being offended is a choice, no one can ‘make’ anyone else offended. Everyone makes a conscience decision at some point that if a certain situation arises they’ll be offended. A classic example is the driver that thinks if I get cut off one more time I’m going to get mad (offended) follow that person around and honk at them. They then act like they had no choice when in reality they did.
Same concept for anything one might get offended for, someone may not make the choice in the moment but they likely pre-made it in the past.
RACerri32 almost 10 years ago
Long-winded bible thumpers offend me.Good strip, cartoon boy!
corzak almost 10 years ago
@puggles. Nice try. Very convoluted attempt to cherry pick science into scripture. But doesn’t work. Let it go.
corzak almost 10 years ago
@puggles wrote: “One difference between Allah and Yahweh—Allah teaches to kill your enemies and Yahweh teaches to love your enemies. Another—Allah teaches to make converts at the point of a sword and Yahweh teaches to reason with people.”.Laugh. Wow. Astounding selectivity. Might want to read the bible. Wherein Yahweh orders (or carries out himself) the massacre of tens of thousands of innocents – who are declared as “enemies” or who do not “convert”. Cherry-picking scripture is fun.

What happened to the mutant Croc ( the one with Stephan’s head ) ?
lattewoman almost 10 years ago
Today’s offering is disappointing. Are we reacting to management’s opinion on Larry’s kid?
Sailor46 USN 65-95 almost 10 years ago
I’m a Fundamental Apatheist.
flyfisher almost 10 years ago
Good comment Stephan, on the state of hyper-sensitivity ruling the world today. Offended by something? Do not read it, turn it off, ignore it, express your own opinion, but do not try to silence the offender.
flyfisher almost 10 years ago
Who else thinks the missing characters in panel three are from right to left Rat, Stephan, and Pig?
LC1 almost 10 years ago
Man Up!…a term I first heard from a woman, ironically
haggerty3 almost 10 years ago
Wow Offensivesensitivity
zeexenon almost 10 years ago
If you stare at it long enough, you can see a cartoon of Mohammed, God’s prophet.
Fido (aka Felix Rex) almost 10 years ago
Nothing to see here — move along — move along.
Dr. Whom almost 10 years ago
@haggerty333 Republicans? Don’t be ridiculous. Fundamentalists? Hard to say – depends on the flavor. Now, Social Justice Warriors, that would be more like it…
stugiv almost 10 years ago
Sad that the first commenter has to try & make it political. Interestingly ‘Fundamentalist’ is used without any modifiers. I suppose it could be applied to radical women’s rights groups who came up with the idea of ‘trigger warnings’ & complain about inappropriate jokes from comedians who perform at their college.
Perhaps Fundamentalist could be applied to those who get people fired from their jobs because they made a donation to a group who opposed gay marriage. These people appear to believe that those who have different views must be punished. I guess some types of diversity aren’t to be tolerated.
Dr. Whom almost 10 years ago
Stephen, I noticed that you are also not depicting Mohammed. This could be dangerous…
benrtilley almost 10 years ago

anybody else see the irony of the comments made concerning this strip and the Bible scripture quoted below?Matthew Chapter 7 Verse 6 “Don’t give what is holy to unholy people.* Don’t give pearls to swine! They will trample the pearls, then turn and attack you. (NLT translation)
Kali39 almost 10 years ago
Why, there are several Pearls characters who don’t offend us!
There’s um…....and then there’s um…....Nope, I’m out… :-)
danketaz Premium Member almost 10 years ago
Most of the unoffensive characters died by the end of their first strip.
comicsnerd74 almost 10 years ago
Wow. Stephan is very lazy. He was obviously on vacation while doing this.

@Dave4B To one significant digit, pi is three.
puggles almost 10 years ago
You obviously have a lot of hatred, and I am sorry for you for that. You are taking all of what you are saying out of context. Until you are willing to look at the bible in historic context and realize that God is God, you won’t understand. With all that hatred, your heart must really hurt. I will pray for you, even if you do hate me.
RonBerg13 Premium Member almost 10 years ago
It is different, I guess.

Caldonia almost 10 years ago
By the way, where are the so-called social justice warriors who took away freedom of speech? Oh wait that’s a paranoid fantasy, my bad.
Dr. Whom almost 10 years ago
You know, one of the very interesting things about militant atheists is that they insist on a literal interpretation of scripture…in other words, they are fundamentalists. Only ones without understanding – "Hear this, you foolish and senseless people, who have eyes but do not see, who have ears but do not hear.”
Dr. Whom almost 10 years ago
My apologies. I will suggest to you, however, that the existence of contradictions in the Hebrew bible are not to be taken in the same way that modern Westerners take them. As I understand it, the Hebrews embraced contradiction – certainly a prescientific approach. If there were two (or more) views about things, the Hebrews recorded them all. I tend to approach the Hebrew bible as a compendium of arguments among the Hebrews about God, and in some cases, an argument between the Hebrews & God about God. (Consider Job.) So in a way, Puggles is right – there are no contradictions in the Hebrew bible, in large part because to take it as some kind of logical presentation of facts & arguments is to miss the point. Or, to put it another way, what the modern mind sees as “contradictions” ARE the point.
Invisiblekin almost 10 years ago
As a long time Gamergate supporter I’ve come to the terrible realization that I identify as an invisiblekin. It started out as a measure of anonymity to both protect my identity and remain the only way to safely exercise my First Amendment rights in this country but it became something more…I realized I had finally discovered who I truly was. No one.
A randomized post here, a throwaway login there. I thought I was in control, I thought I could stop. Now instead of porn I huff invisible ink while browsing Garfield Minus Garfield and a bit of Casper the Friendly Ghost on the side.
I’m truly hurt by this trivialization of my and my fellow invisiblekin’s lived experiences and will be penning the editor a handwritten letter that must be held up to a lightbulb for 30 seconds.
claire de la lune. almost 10 years ago
On a lighter note, this must have been a ridiculously simple strip to draw.Yet this has been one of the most buzzed about Pearls strips of 2015.
