When I get precise about grammar, spelling and punctuation, people don’t like it. But if I call the monster “Frankenstein” or say “Grand Central Station” the pedants get all bent out of shape.

Technically, any number of steenky overprocessed packaged foods is bad for healths. So it not counts.

This really irritated me, but when I looked into it, I learned that “less” had in the past been perfectly fine. That’s one pet peeve eliminated, only a thousand more to go.

If you can’t argue with them, pick apart their grammar.

It probably annoys him when Facebook asks whether you want more or less posts like this, too. Certainly annoys me!

“technically” Bev is wrong, cereal is only sold by the box, it should have been grapes or bananas, etc that are sold by weight

English language doesn’t have rules. They use books of suggested styles.

From the Oxford Dictionary definition of item (edited for clarity): “an individual … unit, especially one that is part of a list, COLLECTION (emphasis mine), or set.”

From the Oxford Dictionary definition of collection: “A group of THINGS or people.” (One corn flake is a “thing” [i.e., an inanimate material object].)

Ergo, a box of cornflakes is one item.

(To avoid further problems, please specify to the cashier you are buying a CARTON of eggs [one item], not a dozen eggs [twelve individual items or things]).

OK then. I want 9 Corn Flakes. What price will that ring up?

Why isn’t it written correctly? He might be pedantic, but he’s right.

But if he’s so keen on it he shouldn’t say „technically” but „grammatically”…
