The way it should be…

I hope Red finished his homework before going out to play with Rover.

To everything … there’s a time for yourself and a time with others, a time to be passive and a time to be active, a time to stay inside and a time to go out …

Today’s strip reminds me of an early Calvin and Hobbes strip from when Calvin and Susie were much friendlier than they would later be. Calvin and Hobbes were watching their bouncing TV set with “Ooh! You’ve tricked me for the wast time, Wabbit!” and an explosion coming from it. Calvin laughed and said, “I wish I had some dynamite!” Dad complained that Calvin shouldn’t be watching TV on such a beautiful day but should be playing outside. He put Calvin and Hobbes outside. They looked at one another and then walked away from the house. The last panel showed Susie opening her door to Calvin:

Calvin: Hey, Susie! Can we come in and watch TV.

Susie: Sure, there’s a commercial showing.

Susie was much more like Calvin in those early days before Watterson started to develop differences between Susie and Calvin.
