Not a “laughing” matter if hyenas get you.

That evil arab guard must have a very large head to have a headress big enough to tie him up and gag him. Tarzan will regret not slitting his throat!

“…gnaw thy bones?” This is the King James Version of Tarzan. Next thing you know, there will be “weeping and gnashing of teeth.”

This guy will turn out to be the luckiest one in the village.

The guy will probably gag to death since he hasn’t washed that headdress in more than a year….if ever.

Why “Dango the Hyena”? If Tarzan expects the guard to know apeish he only needs to say dango. If Tarzan knows the guard doesn’t speak apeish (and Tarzan should always assume others don’t speak apeish) he only needs to say hyena. The confused guard may think this is Tarzan of the Hyenas and Dango is his buddy.

Comic strip dialog is written for the reader of the strip, not the characters in it.

Good Lord! Tied the guard up with his own headdress! How humiliating—he’ll never live it down!

Finally, a threat I don’t have to fear: being tied up with my own head dress.

And when the surviving slavers found their bound comrade, and figured out that his lax job at guarding had led to Tarzan’s victory, they murdered him.

Tarzan is getting soft in his old age. Back in the day, he’d climb the nearest tree, drop a noose over the guard’s head, effortlessly pull him up hand-over-hand, gruesomely dispatch him, and then drop the guard’s lifeless, mutilated corpse into the village square as a party favor. Tsk, tsk, Tarzan.

Maybe Tarzan needs to suck the life out of Sheeta, Lions, Crocs, apes etc. and then use their powers. Kind of like a vampire.

Hyenas don’t exactly gnaw bones. They crunch them up as if they were dog biscuits.

Silent as Sheeta the panther, Tarzan drew himself over the top of the stockade. Then he screamed as loud as Bluey the kookaburra when he got a splinter in his fanny.

In the original Burroughs stories all the interactions with Arab tribes used the archaic Thou, Thee, Thy, Thine, pronouns
