(It’s got nine more months, push comes to shove.)

Hate to bring facts into this, but George Washington had nothing to do with the Declaration. He was in New York at the time.

Two Virginians are founding a nation:/

Each one owns a large plantation/

    where a few hundred folks/

    toil, supporting these blokes../

    enslaved due to dark pigmentation///

“Liberty” is the cause of the founding/

Upon which they’ve been freely expounding../

    An elusive ideal/

    with abounding appeal:/

In their times, an idea astounding ! ///

    There must be certain qualifications/

ones which favor the men with plantations/

    and women don’t count/

    (Though they’re pleasant to mount:/

Tom has caused at least six impregnations ..)///

    They are writing a constitution-/

Which may well be a lasting solution, /

    if interpreted well,

    but who can foretell/

the duration of their contribution ?///

There are forces abroad in the land/

    Which we’re struggling to understand:/

    Science versus the Bible:/

    The divisions are tribal/

Let us hope it can be kept in hand….

This, I believe, is the signing of the Constitution, not the Declaration. If so, there is no official Continental Congress; just the chosen delegates to the Constitutional Convention. And that is George Washington in the chair, not John Hancock. I understand how people confuse the two events, especially seeing as how they happened in the same place with some of the same people. But the Declaration was formed and signed by the 2nd Continental Congress in 1776; the Constitution was formed and signed in the summer of 1787 by delegates chosen by the states, but not an official Congress.

“Well, Gentlemen, I believe we have agreed as much as possible in the final drafting of this document. Allowing for amendments toward its continual refinement as conditions change through time is genius.

“I doubt that even some misguided political hacks hundreds of years from will dare undermine its firm foundations. And even if so, the enlightened men of a Supreme Court would certainly forestall their trumpery.”

Hold on, hold on, let’s put some nonsense words and a few symbols in the corners so that for the next few hundred years, people will spend hours writing conspiracy theories, books, and whatever something called movies are. Oh, this is jolly fun!

    ATTENTION That Is Priceless Fans

They’ve done it again!! Goatkomix Overlords & Arbitors of Good Taste have banned one of or leading lights of limericks Solstice and have wiped all his wit and witticism from these pages. Lord knows what minor infraction of the draconian laws of Goatkomix Commentary he’s broken, or what snowflake’s delicate sensibilities have been upset by his poetry but there it is folks … he’s been banned, erased, cast into the darkness.

I urge all of you ( including Steve Melcher ) to write and complain to the curators of this site about this arbitrary punishment of one of our foremost contributors.

The Foundation of the American Government

    Paste (including the quote marks)

    "Category:Rising Sun Chair" Wikimedia

(syntax supported by the Google, Bing, Yahoo, DuckDuckGo, Ecosia and Yandex search engines) in the browser address bar (or search for it using one of those search engines) and choose the first Category: found and once there find the text string Foundation, and click its link for info and links that point to more info about this painting.

Again, a larger strip image is shown by (Ctrl- or right-) clicking the image in Mr. Melcher’s MASTERPIECE #3273 (February 20, 2024) blog entry, accessible by the Check out the blog! box after the last comment, and using the dropdown menu (even larger, if you trim what’s after .png from the URL). I have added a comment there pointing to info about this artist I used to point to here. Only work by him used here so far.
