If it weren’t for the body, we could keep doing all kinds of fun things in retirement.

62 and relatively healthy and pain free. My problem is that I can feel my synapses just sitting there, content to run on 3 of 4 cylinders. I try to get the 4th one going with high octane coffee, but the other three are like, “Just let him rest for a bit.”

There was an old man from Kent

His body not straight but bent

    His mind was willing

    His thoughts were thrilling

But his youth had up and went

My body’s original warrantee has expired. Now I thankfully have Medicare to help with maintenance plus a not so cheap supplemental plan. Still a pain in the drain as well as the body.

I feel personally attacked. Since 55, 2 seizures from a pain med. 2 dislocated shoulders from the seizures. A knee replacement that has gotten infected, removed, replaced with a plastic spacer and I’m looking forward to getting off the IV antibiotics in a few weeks and the final knee replacement in April. Between the knee surgeries I had a surgery for spinal stenosis. With a little luck I’ll be healthy enough to retire in 18 months. My body hates me but my mind is shot.

At 68 my knees ache, my back aches and when I wake up in the morning the only thing that’s stiff is my neck.

That’s why I keep myself in tip top shape! I’m 63 but I still practice martial arts. And I still put in some time with my mountain bicycle.

If, after age 50, you wake up in the morning and nothing hurts, there’s a good possibility that you passed away during the night.

I got spinal stenosis. Also had Spinal fusion twice in my neck. One spinal surgery. Mastoid shunt. Hurt in car wreck – woman on cell phone lost control and hit us head on. Doctor say – exercise. All can do to walk after 2001 until today. Do upper body exercise but exert lower body causes swelling which puts one back in hospital. Doctor can’t understand common sense. Body can’t do jumping jacks or swimming at age 76 with 106 year old body. Walking to bathroom and doctor office is quite a feat. I just Iggy the jerk.

In every machine, parts wear out over time from use and or abuse. The body is a machine, a very wonderous one, but a machine, nonetheless. The body has a finite period of life in this present existence of ours. Only God knows what happens to us after our body ceases to function. However, we do need to take care of it as best we can here, not just for the physical longevity, but for a healthy and happy mind that remembers when we did those things that we can’t do or do quite as well now. While I too would like some parts to work better, I have no fear of the end of my machine as I do believe in an afterlife from a Judeo-Christian perspective. But, I also respect others’ positions as to existence/non-existence. However, the first round of drinks for them will be on me when they do get there……

I started taking a med to slow down my heart rate then had to have a pacemaker implanted to prevent it from going to slow.
