What about the ones who had to hold the hub cap? (Fuuuuudge…….)

They were torchered.

I was spared. Don’t recall him ever asking me.

We had a temperamental well pump. I recall my Dad, at night, trying to prime it. His fedora, a trail of smoke from his Fatima cigarette dangling on his lip, muttering Slavic curse words at the pump and me for not keeping the flashlight shining on the work. I was a ten years old and more worried about rattlesnakes….

But now with the advent of headlamp flashlights, who needs a helper?

The woman was so shaken, she dropped the flashlight on her feet.

This brings back memories. Not good ones, though.

There is a hold the flashlight for dad meme that makes it clear for those of us who never had to. It relates a lot to working on a car and my dad just took our car to a garage.

A trigger. Especially the cheap red plastic ones with wonky switches. I’ve said too much. Back into my shell.

Last night I held my cell phone light to shine on my sprinkling system controller while my irrigation service man tried to reset it to water on the proper days (and still wrong this morning, grrr!!!).

At least they had Dads in their lives.

I learned how to light the pilot light of a furnace under the house by holding a flashlight for my dad. So not a bad memory. Or helping him change a flat tire in the middle of the night.

Oh my gosh! I feel seen! This is about trying to help your dad by holding a flashlight and him getting angry because you either got distracted for a second and the light wasn’t in the right spot, or you didn’t read his mind and move the light to where he wanted to see next.

I have very fond memories of holding lights for Dad. Giving him tools and helping him fix things. God, I miss him!

How about “go get me the 3/26th (or other sized) wrench!”

I always remember getting distracted and shining the light on other things. My dad was a very patient man.

How is this a thing?
