The odd thing is, if you asked many of the gun enthusiasts and “conservatives” if they would take up arms to defend those in this country who cannot defend themselves they would say “hell yeah”. Ask them to wear a mask to protect the same people and listen to a torrent of twisted excuses. Simple answer? Ones macho, the other’s not.
My pappy is 88. He was born and lived in Portsmouth, VA until he was 13. He’s told me that the guvmint asked you to donate your old grease! Somebody would come through every now and then and collect it. Can you imagine the cryin’ and whinin’ that would go down now if some folks were asked by the guvmint to VOLUNTARILY do something like this as per the “Covid effort”? Unfortunately, you can… Here’s another thing thing my pap’s always told me: The definition of a conservative – person who’s against guvmint assistance until he needs some. I’ll stop.
Nothing “inspires” citizens to volunteer for military service like how the Commander-In-Chief questions what’s in it for them? and calls them suckers and losers…
Sounds about right. The truth be told there was some complaining about the rationing however most everyone did it and as the war progressed they did it. Of course, the difference was like him or not FDR led, and he reminded us it was about all of us. Which we are lacking today.
Their’s was the Greatest Generation and we are left with the spoiled and incompetent children and grandchildren. Never been tested until now by real crisis. Unwilling to step up or step down. Clinging with geriatric hands to positions of power. The first line of defense always “Its not fair… I am being cheated”.

Winston Churchill in 1940: “All I can offer is blood, toil, tears, and sweat.”
British equivalent of Trumpets: " ‘F’ that! Just let Hitler do what he wants in Europe."
(Actually, there was a faction in the British government that advocated doing exactly that.)

As Jesse Ventura has said, if the Americans of WWII were like the Americans of today, Hitler would have won the war.

If today’s anti-maskers had lived in London during the Blitz, they’d have been standing on rooftops at midnight waving flashlights.

My parents lived in a heavily bombed area of England during WW2. I’m kinda glad they aren’t alive to see what’s happening now.
