love sitting outside in the summer in Texas and listening to the “night birds”, also known as frogs, crickets, and a few birds that actually fly around at night. Also early morning listening to the doves and birds starting to wake up…….clears your mind and lets you get ready for the day, no matter what you have to do. Love Arlo’s expression in panel 4.
When you hear the peepers at night, you know everything is all right., It’s when they stop that you know something or someone is prowling.Tree frogs already out here in East Texas, although the night temps are forecast as unusually low this coming week after the warmest winter I can remember.
bawana asked: “So, are “peepers” a southern thing?”I live on the Massachusetts / New Hampshire border, and we have peepers here staring the middle of March. They are the best sound in the world, especially after a hard winta.

OK why do we have Arlo at two different ages and are frogs really bilingual?
charliefarmrhere almost 9 years ago
Correct. Arlo is way off in nostalgia dreamland. The sound of the frogs are taking him back to fond memories of his childhood.

The peepers started here March 8th, they (along with red winged blackbirds) make the sweetest spring music in the world!

Peepers are an eastern thing, like fireflies. We had them in PA when I was growing up. Not out here in the wild west. Miss them both sometimes.

(I trigger on music related words, such as “peepers” and nearly every sentence has a few.)

Welcome to the real world. Go out and buy yourself an umbrella. Better yet, ask the idiot in the White House to buy you one.
