I remember doing this. I also remember a Sunday-morning TV show where a middle-aged gentleman who thought he was a good narrator reading (and trying to show, but there was only a single camera, so it got tricky) the Sunday comics section of the paper to us for half an hour. But I usually had read the comics by the time the show came on, so it wasn’t all that entertaining at the time.
I cannot believe nobody here has yet mentioned who the character is ON the putty. It’s DILL from the late lamented Cul De Sac by Richard Thompson. Nice homage!

You can still smell that Silly Putty scent, from when you first open the egg, can’t you?

It’s called Silly Putty and yes it does that. But why the scowl on his face in the first panel?

I remember doing that! After a while, though, the Silly Putty got so dark with so much ink it wouldn’t work any more.

Still available on a certain gigantic online location for $10.00 for six eggs. It won’t be long and there won’t be any funnies to use it on.

Thanks for the memories. Strangely, it doesn’t seem to work on these comics. ;)
