Only the RW media seeks to divide; only the RW seeks to ‘conquer’. As a rule, the Left seeks amity, and tries to persuade, rather than ‘conquer’- and except where someone is doing active harm to others, is quite content to live and let live.

That about sums it up, if we removed the profit motive from news media, i would love to know the content would change.

Me, I have never been able to master, ( master, a synonym for the word conquer?) “long division”!

I think I will stick with an electronic calculator to solve long division.

In the past the media consisted of a few voices that had differing views. But with today’s technology, anyone can be media and the result is a cacophony of megaphones all shouting at once. You can only understand the one you are standing closest to, and you get to choose where you stand.

The media seldom lie but they rarely tell the truth.

I am old enough to remember Walter Cronkite. “News” has changed a lot since then. It is now “Infortainment” – a conglomeration of 30-second sound bites taken out of context based loosely on real events.

Back in high school we were taught how to read a newspaper (remember them?) I now apply the same analysis to cable news and alarms go off when I see good journalistic practices violated. Mainstream media such as NBC news usually rates two to four alarms. For FOX “News” the klaxon goes on within the first 10 seconds and stays on for as long as i can bear to watch.

I used to say that I watched CNN and Fox and averaged them out. Fox has ceases to have any credibility as a news source. Other news services are also biased but do a better job camouflaging it.

I’ve go through several salt licks when watching news on TV. I mostly read a news feed with multiple sources but even then, I find it difficult to get the information I want.

The Media readily admitted their most profitable years were when Trump was President. CNN especially profited. The very first word spoken on any broadcast news was “Trump.”

Most often Trump’s name continues to lead. For Trump, any news is good publicity news.

Dividing the nation is a profitable business plan for media, and BOTH parties.

Ideally, news sources would report on events that were clearly of widespread interest by themselves, and on items of interest to a segment they have decided to serve – the young or the old, investors or laborers, urban or rural…. Interviews would be held with opposing candidates and opposing political advocates. I have not seen any of that since people were telling me my hair was too long.

I no longer look for news anywhere, being unable to find a reliable source. The last holdout I recall was a radio station in Phoenix that had fact-focused reporting 20 years ago. Amazingly, they had enough need-to-know material that had no political side, including interviews with people from local governments who were telling about civic projects planned and being worked to fill the day. Imagine that!

Pretty good comic, but divisiveness profits the right most. Left leaning channels tend to cheerleading, their viewers don’t tolerate disinformation as much.

Of course the root is Reagan’s removal of the equal time rules. If every outlet had to give the counter argument to their view, we might return to objective journalism being our shared reality.

Those who think only with emotion, cannot comprehend logic. That applies equally to both extremes, left and right.

For many years, networks and local TV stations viewed the news department as a cost center. It was never expected to make money. If they were lucky, it might break even. Somewhere within the last generation or two, owners decided that news organizations need to be profit centers and that has destroyed the credibility of almost all news groups. It has led to biased reporting to appeal to a specific demographic and it has decimated the size of news departments thereby hindering their ability to accurately cover all the news that needs covering. The love of money truly is the root of all evil.

In the novelization of 2001, Clarke commented that the newspapers of Utopia would be very dull. And Johnny Hart once said in the Wizard comic that there were no student riots during the winter because the TV cameras froze up.

I’ve never seen it written anywhere that Al Gore ever said anything remotely close to “Veterans or active service members are suckers and losers” but Trump sure was quoted as saying it on several occasions.
