Another comic I suspect is drawn absolutely from life. Elvis vs. the teapot – place your bets!

Hmm… do I go ahead and add the teapot, or wait ’til it makes another appearance? The cuckoo clock… the fuzzy blanket… the haunted cookie jar…

At least in the Sunday strips Lupin is his old happy self…

I feel the same way about my wife’s teapot! Her Irish granny always insisted that water come to a full, rolling boil for tea, and she follows that tradition.

That’s not a teapot. That’s a kettle. You boil the water in the kettle. You put tea leaves (or bags, in these degenerate days) into the pot. When the water in the kettle boils, you then pour it into the teapot to brew the tea.

The answer, Elvis, is “As many as The Woman can get hold of.” And that kettle is probably cursed as well.

I really don’t get the obsession with stove top kettles in the U.S.A. Other countries have this thing called ‘electricity’ that’s used for them. Nice to see Sunflower Elvis again.

Whistling kettles are pretty ingenious, IMO, but I wish there was a way to test them out before buying one. The one we have is very pleasing to the eye — bell-shaped body with a very round, high arched handle, but the whistle is your basic shrill-screamer, which I tolerate … My friend has a kettle whose whistle was designed to sound like a train whistle. The first time I heard it I was surprised at how melodious it was! The downside was its handle would get so hot that it’d give third degree burns to unsuspecting house guests …

My great-grandmother had a chiming mantle clock. The kind you had to wind once a week, with mechanical chimes. I don’t think her cat ever got used to it.

A little Gilbert and Sullivan: Titwillow

On the top of the stove a tea kettle did sit,

Singing Tea, oh Tea, oh Tea,

It’s getting uncomfortable on this stove, I admit

Singing Tea, oh Tea, oh Tea,

Surely the Woman is ready for tea,

But she’s nowhere in sight, oh where could she be?

And Elvis is getting so much madder at me!

Singing Tea, oh Tea, oh Tea.

    …….

Now I’m getting impatient as the cuckoo clock

As I sing Tea, oh Tea, oh Tea,

And Puck and Lupin are expressing their shock,

As I sing Tea, oh Tea, oh Tea,

Oh Woman please get here quite soon I implore,

Or a dignified sunflower will happen, I’m sure,

She says it’s so relaxing, as a cup I pour,

Of Tea, oh Tea, oh Tea!

That looks like a kettle holder in the last panel. I knit some and they are so useful! No as bulky as a pot holder, they fit perfectly around the kettle handle.

Lol, I somehow became in charge of tea (and cocoa or cider for my dad) for myself, my mom, and my sister in the evenings, and I don’t let the water get all the way to a full, rolling boil for two reasons: 1) so it doesn’t make a horrible shriek, and 2) so it doesn’t take away the beneficial nutrients in the raw honey I use in our tea =)

Get with the 21st century! For years now I’ve made my tea by putting the teabags in the electric kettle, when it boils and switches itself off the tea is ready to pour. Simples!
