Covering the hole is good, but donāt repair it before your insurance company has sent someone to look at it. I once heard about some people who got robbed, and it took three weeks before an insurance guy came to look at the situation. By that time, everything had been repaired and cleaned up. The insurance guy said he didnāt see any evidence of a break in, so the insurance wouldnāt pay. When they pointed out that they had had to fix the broken window and clean the apartment, and that they had filed a report with the police confirming the break in, the insurance guy told them they could take the case to court if they wanted. The people couldnāt afford that, so the insurance company never had to pay anything.
Cal is too young and too far removed from the scene to be scared. He appears not to have experienced a sense of loss. And he is too young to have developed a feeling of my āhome is my private spaceā that one develops as one ages, thus making one vulnerable to loss when the space is entered illegally and with no respect for oneās possessions.
This happened to us. We were afraid to stay home in case they came back and we were afraid to leave in case they came back. It is quite a sense of violation.
Heh, I bet Calvinās teacher and classmates will be shocked he thinks itās cool that his house was robbed. And of course, wait until Calvin realizes they have no more TV at that timeā¦

The punch line is that Calvin is not scared. Youth is when disaster was an adventure ā in hindsight.

Why would they come back? They already got what they wanted, and now the house is occupied.

My Smith and Wesson 9mm put an end to the break ins around my neighborhood. And it only had to speak twice to get listened too.
