Covering the hole is good, but don’t repair it before your insurance company has sent someone to look at it. I once heard about some people who got robbed, and it took three weeks before an insurance guy came to look at the situation. By that time, everything had been repaired and cleaned up. The insurance guy said he didn’t see any evidence of a break in, so the insurance wouldn’t pay. When they pointed out that they had had to fix the broken window and clean the apartment, and that they had filed a report with the police confirming the break in, the insurance guy told them they could take the case to court if they wanted. The people couldn’t afford that, so the insurance company never had to pay anything.
Cal is too young and too far removed from the scene to be scared. He appears not to have experienced a sense of loss. And he is too young to have developed a feeling of my ‘home is my private space’ that one develops as one ages, thus making one vulnerable to loss when the space is entered illegally and with no respect for one’s possessions.
This happened to us. We were afraid to stay home in case they came back and we were afraid to leave in case they came back. It is quite a sense of violation.
Heh, I bet Calvin’s teacher and classmates will be shocked he thinks it’s cool that his house was robbed. And of course, wait until Calvin realizes they have no more TV at that time…

I don’t think Calvin minds a little near death experience.

Dad really doesn’t know his own son. But it’s surprising to see such sensitivity to Calvin’s feelings.

They will get a real laugh out of that.

All my stuff is so old they’d be doing me a favor by hauling it away.

Well at least Calbin feels safe and secure now that Hobbes is back.

Hobbes, did you attack the thieves the way you attack Calvin when he gets home from school?

Umm… Calvin… I don’t think you understand the gravity of the situation here. No TV mean no more cartoons!

Not to pop his balloon, but wasn’t Hobbes hiding under the covers the whole time?

The punch line is that Calvin is not scared. Youth is when disaster was an adventure – in hindsight.

That kid has a vivid imagination………as does the author.

So, Hobbes “scared away” the burglars AFTER they got what they wanted. What an imagination Calvin has.

Hobbes was supposed to flash the mandibles of death BEFORE they make off with the loot

You were found hiding under the covers… You scared no one but yourself. There is likely a wet spot…

Why would they come back? They already got what they wanted, and now the house is occupied.

First time I’ve ever seen Dad show any compassion for Calvin.

My Smith and Wesson 9mm put an end to the break ins around my neighborhood. And it only had to speak twice to get listened too.
