Funny Calvin should mention Angels. I’m currently playing Kid Icarus uprising that I got for Christmas.

Question: does Cal see the dichotomy between the historical and religious use of the generic term ‘angels’ and its modern application as a commercial illustration?

I’d forgotten but now that Calvin mentions it, there were indeed lots of angels on stationary and the like in the days this strip was running. I also remember a very common design for guardian angel jewelry: wings spread, one leg up and behind the other, right arm bent forward at the elbow as though asking for a fist bump. I had a tiny one as a lapel pin. (For the first half of 1997 I had this weird compulsion to collect random lapel pins, and wear two a day despite hardly ever wearing a jacket with lapels.)

Over at “Rose is Rose”, Pasquale’s obnoxious cousin Clem has a whole squad of guardian angels to Pasquale’s one. Pasquale’s G.A. told him that Clem needed that many. Wonder how many Calvin would need?

Those are not angels, Calvin. They are idealized winged aryans.

Just call me Angel of the Morning Angel. Our loved ones who’ve passed are our angels.
