Seems Endtown was started in an earlier century. Explains the archaic street lights and bridges.Duchess promises to be an interesting character.

It doesn’t look like Endtown at this point could have been built by any known people with the technology of the time. Vinepole and his friend have only just been commissioned, with Endtown already having been partially built. It appears that the Duchess somehow came into possession of a pre-existing structure and is looking for someone to complete it. Perhaps Lucranians or some other hidden people built the foundation.

What about the other cities? Endtown isn’t the only one. Is this Duchess in charge of building all of them? I seriously doubt the Duchess and Flask are the same person and will be surprised if Marx is the fellow in the tophat, though it may be.

First comment.Who is the dark man in the tall hat? What is Duchess concealing behind her cloak?Sure she is lifting it to walk. But the placement of her hands as if support something?Tall, statuesque, imposing character, and crossing a bridge? The shoes now appear to be shoes. Like Berkinstocks. I had a pair that had a large two piece leather over the toes and foot that had a ridge right down the middle. I dug them out last night. From the front view a perfect match in form.

I see that Fritz Lang’s classic ‘Metropolis’ has a definite influence on the building of this underground city in Endtown, at least IMHO.

You want it we DIG IT.I can say this.No one (except me) has refered to the shadow with the tall hat as………wait for it………ABE LINCOLN!!!!!!!!!There I said I got it out of my system for now.Her comment to Vinepole she is mocking him. Reminding him of the time already spent on the project and he refers to it as an absurdity. Reminding him this is a serious project and he better quit complaining and get on with it.

On her hand placement under her cloak?Common to hold it up to walk. Usually done with one hand.Supporting a child she is carrying? I have seen pregnant women walk like that when deep into the pregnancy. The bouncing from walking can be somewhat uncomfortable so they hold themselves to stop the shaking.Help me out ladies if on here. I have seen pregnant women hold themselves like that when walking especially when far along into the final trimesters.

From Yesterday, thank you Veteran in more ways than one.

My avatar was based on a comic that Amy Brown did at her site http://www.talesfrombandcamp.com/. She used to do a comic about once every two weeks or so but now with two very young children and a full time job, she has little time to draw. Yes, it was her tribute to Mr. Crumb and I was one of the very few that even heard of him let alone recognized it. This year is double nickel for me.

Well, a Duchess has a need for an assistant and/or body guard. Again dress says per World War 1 including the Top Hat person in the back (maybe more like 1870’s). Do not give the laborers short shift in the pre-modern era. They did great work with what we call “simple tools”. All our machinery did was made it easier and faster.

To surfstuff55 from yesterdayYou are right. I am that crazy uncle in the family. And the falling is okay. Do it all the time. So kids dont try it at home.Professional here.Walked into a restroom one time in college. Goooood Party. Was confused! No urinals on the walls only toilets.Stupid college thought I, all unisex just like Europe.Stepped out looked at the sign. Yes It said Ladies Room.Looked kind of plain. Always thought it was magical land of enchantment. I mean not one girl goes there, THEY all go there at one time so it must be a real super place.Europe, especially France, was disconcerting. There I stood and there she was next to me smiling (or laughing) I was ahhhhhh?. Stepped out smelled the river, choked back my gag and said “Ah Paris”. Then I thought “See Paris and die”. Back to the orchestra pit. Later.

To GoodDoctorYou are welcome.I did some research on Mr. Crumb. He sued everybody about that Trucking design. Lost the case as it was declared Public Domain due to the popularity. He seemed real bitter about that.Happened alot back then. An artist works and works. Someone comes along and gets you signed up for deals. Small print never seen allows ripping off of artist so they make more money than you.Happened to bands, artists, anyone with good idea was victims of those evil persons. No artist, author, musician, or anyone with a good idea, music, art, or gift of words should be ripped off. It just aint right. Her design is cool and I hope protected.

A lifetime.. a sacrifice of time, or of life? A mysterious hooded figure who’s royalty, and coupled with our revelation of a previous character who brought the dimensionometer with the prospect of alternate histories.. this could go anywhere!

The story will be told, and we’ll listen and watch with baited breath.

It seems like Endtown has been in the works longer than I had imagined. I had always assumed that it was built a decade or so before World War III as a shelter that would have allowed some remnant of humanity to survive the end of civilization. Now we see Endtown under construction in a time that appears to be like our Victorian/Edwardian eras. And that it has already taken several “lifetimes” to get to this stage. What is it for? Did this Duchess and her ancestors have some vague inkling of what was to come or did cavern we know as Endtown start out with some other purpose?

While the characters so far have remained on a unidirectional timeline, this is the first occurance in the main story sequence that a different time reference has occurred. There is a possibility that something else may be explained with this story: the mutagenic virus. Was an early explorer to the cave exposed to something in the cave that was already there? I’m guessing an early form of the mutagenic virus, although no as contagious. Someone else suggested the virus caried with it genomes from previous hosts. If there were no previous animal entrances into the cave before the first explorer(s) there may have been either no or such a minor exposure to have caused little or no defect or the exchange may have been only between the humans that came there (I have my father’s eyes—-really!). Anyway, there may be a cause for the Duchess to hide her head and no, I don’t think it’s Philomena for when she appears again, it will be after the event in the last story. That’s how I understand it anyway. But to paraphrase a well used comment “It’s Aaron’s story and he’s stickin’ to it!”Keep me guessing, Aaron.

Why build a cave to put a city in it? There are plenty of caves suitable to house a small city, but most of the mile deep caverns tend to be in the Caucasus regions. They are kind of chilly due to natural ventilation. Who knows what the war did. Several places in the USA have deep caves in mountainous regions, and a bit of Amesworth radiated dust cold make the cave further below the surface, and probably seal most of the entrances. I remember Endtown as “a mile underground”, not a mile below sea level.Art Bell had a radio show that occasionally discussed underground hollow earth people that controlled events on the surface through varied means. Operation High Jump was about a trip to the hollow earth via Antarctica, to chase down the Nazis who escaped to the hollow earth with gold and technology. Conspiracy theories can be fun.We may have said goodbye to all our fave personalities for a while, or not. This could be Endtown in the past, I think so because of the bridge and river. But it could be in another region, state, or even time than the ones I have seen so far. The Duchess’ attendant is walking behind her, possibly indicating a subservient position, and I just don’t see Marx as a servant. The tech may not be terribly advanced, it is just we do not understand it, like we only speculate about the construction of the pyramids, Stonehenge, the megaliths of Malta etc. Maintaining a bit of mystery helps keep the workmen in line.

My father was an electrical contractor, so I have seen plans, and even worked on ground up communities. The houses usually follow a few blueprints, and in 400 houses there were only eight floorplans, with small differences to make the residents feel special.JusSayin
