Tracey’s looking a bit informal, with his tie loosened and his shirt open, but at least he’s getting down to business with George and Brad as Lee looks on….
Mike and Joe put Brad in, as well? I think that’s just great. This is why I love these guys. Now, I can’t wait to see what was found in that internment camp and what Sweatbox has to do with it.
I read Ken’s post, and I’ve read yours. Here’s what I saw.Ken expressed a strong, widely held, religiously-based viewpoint about the practice of homosexuality. You have a strong viewpoint regarding same.Ken did not express contempt or disrespect for you. You did toward him. You also disrespected the Christian religion, declaring it “harmful” and guilty of visiting “untold suffering” on others. In a free society, there are few things more disturbing that to witness a person espouse religious bigotry in such sweeping terms as you have. Ironic that one ostensibly promoting tolerance can be so intolerant himself.
Good Morning VBI am just curious what was said to lead us to believe these guys are gay?
Fhofmann and Ken in Ohio, I have MUCH respect for you two. You all have made some really great comments. You two have represented the Word, our Lord, and our faith very well. Youinz are obviously moral, wholesome and godly folks! …… if in anyway possible, I’ve got your back.
Well done, Team Tracy. Good timing on the theme of tolerance and equality. As the President said yesterday, in his second inaugural address: “It is now our generation’s task to carry on what those pioneers began. For our journey is not complete until our wives, our mothers and daughters can earn a living equal to their efforts. Our journey is not complete until our gay brothers and sisters are treated like anyone else under the law — for if we are truly created equal, then surely the love we commit to one another must be equal as well.”
Good Morning Detectives!Looking like the start of a controversial storyline on two fronts. Can’t wait to see what’s really going on with that confession from that box.
I agree, Don—they should not have gotten mixed up in this debate. Let us cast aside our morals so that we can bend to the whims of the minority. That is the American Way, after all.
Have you ever noticed that those who quote the Bible about homosexuality, ignore the parts about not eating shellfish, not wearing clothes of 2 kinds of cloth, spilling seed on the ground, etc? Why does the Bible say “Thou shalt not kill” yet Capital punishment is OK?
This is commonly known as ala carte Christianity: choosing which verses you will obey and which you won’t based on your own personal prejudices.
Gay isn’t a “Choice”, it’s something that certain people are born with. It is in fact 100% hormonal:Tests over the years have proven that male homosexuality is caused by a low testosterone count in males, and subsequently, not enough estrogen in females, is the cause of lesbianism; admittedly, hormone treatments might have some effect, but, it would likely be temporary, at best.
I’m really sorry to see some readers are angry, and want to quit reading the strip because of the appearance of George and Brad.
And I’m not going to bash anyone’s religion. I’ve had friends, relatives and co-workers who are Catholic, Protestant, Jewish, Moslem, and Pagan, among others. They’re good people, whatever their faith, and I’m sure that God (by whatever name they call Him – or Her) accepts them for the sincerity of their beliefs.
I am troubled by the reaction of some against George and Brad’s appearance. They’re gay, that’s all. And all they’re doing is talking to Dick Tracy.
I’m reminded of “Star Trek”s first appearance back in the ’60s, when some people were outraged by Uhura simply being there. Some complained to NBC; the Scotsman, the Asian, and the alien were okay, but not someone black!
I’m sure they thought it was part of a secret agenda, or bowing down to a minority. But it was actually just reflecting the real world, and the people in it.
You said: “Does anyone else realize that the last bit of real action & excitement in the Dick Tracy strip involving Dick Tracy was way back on November 10th about 2 ½ months ago? Ten Weeks of boredom!!!”-————————————————————Gosh, SDM, I had no idea it’s been so long.I’ve been enjoying the character development with Mole and Honeymoon, and answering the question of ‘will we see the Moon People again?’, and now the start of this story.I guess I’ve a longer attention span! Lol!!
“Since the law recognizes gay marriages….”Only nine states permit same sex marriages. A few others permit civil unions, and others seem to be moving toward acceptance of marriage and/or civil unions. On the other hand, 30 states have banned same sex marriage, 25 of them by amendment to their state constitutions. So in fact “the law” does not recognize gay marriage in most of the country. Most people I know who disagree with the concept of same sex marriage are not hateful bigots, despite being castigated and labeled as such by intolerant folk on the other side. They are reasonable, hard working people who simply don’t think “marriage” is a proper legal term to grant two practicing homosexuals who want to live together. They appeal not only to religion but also to the social history of man, which for thousands of years has never defined marriage in such a novel way, not until the last decade or so. They wonder if America is still a free country, where people can disagree about radical social experiments being tried in certain states without being tarred and feathered for their opinions?Given the country’s sharp division on this issue, I really question the wisdom of this story line. You can see the divisiveness spreading on this board. I very much like Curtis and Staton and don’t mind it when they push the envelope on issues like smoking. But this subject pushes people to the breaking point. I have always enjoyed George Takei’s work and will continue reading Tracy, but I’m not enjoying this story at all and find myself wishing it would just go away.
Regarding your comments on choosing to be or being born gay shall we in the words of that famous philosopher Still Da Man! (LOL!!), “Agree to disagree”?^^Sure, I have no beef with you, but, the tests I’m referring to, actually happened; they were done with mice, who were fed the opposite hormones and suddenly “Switched sides” (Later, tests on homosexual humans proved that indeed the hormone levels were similar to the tests on the mice) it was quite informative and changed MY views on gay people (or mice) , that were much like your own, forever! Either way, I’ve always felt that the right thing is to “Live and let live”.
Here in Canada, gay marriage IS the law of the land, and guess what? Society here hasn’t fallen apart, marriage of straight couples has not ended, the definition of marriage hasn’t changed, the only real change is that gay couples get the same legal perks as other couples, including being able to pass on property after one partner’s death; something they weren’t allowed, not so long ago! (And that included property they bought TOGETHER, which was totally unfair!).. ps, I’m straight, so, I have no agenda here, simply stating the facts.
Is that a “leisure” hat that Dick is wearing in the 70s ?^^LOL, you’d have to ask Gould…I basically drew DT the way he did, at that time, incl the mustache (Which was forcibly shaved off by the other members of the MCU, during the last DT story Gould drew, in 1977)
Papers potentially dropping the strip over two characters that MAY represent two real life people who are gay sounds pretty ridiculous..I’m reminded that throughout Tracy history, many papers have dropped the strip because they felt it was too violent. I love the current strip but we have seen some pretty harsh violence (implied at the very least)..It’s an interesting commentary on some people’s ideas that they don’t have a problem with showing killing and violence but let two men show affection for each other… Whew! Watch out.
Well, pardon me, but I just can’t see why this board has become a site for religeous controversy. Everyone is intitled to his/her own beliefs. But there are places to give voice to those beliefs and places where they realy do not belong. This does not seem to me to be the place for such discussion. Even Jesus said if you wish to pray to the Father, then do it privately in your own room, not out in public. Spreading your belief in public is its own reward, not any points built up in heaven.
You said: " Ok, here goes, I’m about to destroy my image!…"-————————————————————-Good to see you get serious about something, and you make some good points. I don’t agree with everything you said, but I’m glad to see you speak out.I don’t believe we make sexual choices; we don’t choose who appeals to us, it’s something automatic. (Think “love at first sight.”)My first love wasn’t my dream girl. I turned to see the girl sitting next to me in high school; she said “Hi,” and gave me a smile that melted me down to my socks. No choice there; it was purely unconscious automatic pilot. And I think that’s true for us all.
