Sorry, had to be the first to say it today……actually, I don’t see how this current story is going to be a “short” one since it’s already taking quite awhile just to get off the ground…..but it’s all good…..
Personally, I’d like to see DT & SC take these hooligans out for the last time and get a bunch of new young rebel criminals with up to date technology and sophisticated weaponry. Now I know that aint gonna happen but raising those ole crooks back up may add some adventure but it makes the penal system look bad. just sayen
Mumbles gives Stiletta a dirty lookWith a shattered mug he’s a thirsty crook. If looks could kill she’d keel over deadI prefer to gaze at Moon Maid instead.
Good morning all, why does it seem like there is going to be many more days of talk talk talk leading to nowhere? Even the comments have been boring lately (including mine! LOL!) Where’s my good buddy morrow when you need him?
I have already tired of Blackjack – from his message to Tracy a month or so ago to his geekish glee in wanting to “play” with Tracy, especially since he just broke out of jail from his last encounter with the detective. This does not show growth in BJ’s character, not that criminals should, per se; but if BJ is supposed to be the “intelligent” one in this crowd, he’s not showing it.
And I have tired of this meeting. My usual joke about meetings is “minutes are kept and hours are lost.” In this case, no one’s keeping minutes, and we’re already two weeks into the meeting.
What we have: Commonly known bad guys meeting in a public place, with potential witnesses present, no one that can be trusted, and plan the murder of America’s most famous detective. (Don’t forget that mystery ape-like guy in the first panel of this meeting!) That goes double for Blackjack: Escaped convict, hanging around the same crowd, in the same public place – at least the others don’t have arrest warrants hanging over their heads – for the moment, anyway.
And, as for Doubleup’s hairdo – I’ve been thinking X-Men ever since I saw him! Is this another possible “crossover” coming up?
Now, on to more pleasant business:
We’ve raised more than one DT villain from the dead! Time to raise at least one good girl from the dead! If not for us, then do it for Honeymoon!
Two days ago, Maximara asked, if the current Moon Maid is the real deal, why didn’t she try to present herself to her family? From 30 September 2012, when destroying her headstone, Moon Maid had accomplices (Retik was the name of one). Again, two days ago, Ray Toler may have had the answer: Mike may not have intended the current MM to be the real deal – but is having to rethink the story line now that he’s seen how popular she may be.
Which also may explain why the MM story didn’t roll out two weeks ago as at least one “spoiler” post led me to believe would have been the case. It also suggests that this meeting of the mindermasts may be a “filler” story…
(For those who really want to show their age, “mindermasts” was a code word used by Peter Cook and Dudley Moore when they were talking about the masterminds of a great train robbery. And, come to think of it, “mindermasts” really describes this motley crew)
Last, and certainly least, a link to the Milt Priggee cartoon that started me on my current Dick Tracy voyage. Quite appropo, don’t you think?
Technically the only death Tracy was truly “responsible” for was Jacques (BB Eye’s brother) who Tracy shot in self defense. Flattop Sr died by drowning trying to escape, Flattop Jr was shot by Lizz, and Angeltop blew herself up rather then be caught again.
here’s a question that is kind of a tie-in to the current (mini)storyline. i found last night, in my basement, my copy of Tempo Books softcover book “Dick Tracy meets Angeltop, Flattop’s little girl” that reprints Angeltop’s debut story in the Tracy strip. If I read the date n the first panel that I could see it on, it said the story began around Christmas of 1977. That was BEFORE Moon Maid got blown to smithereens wasnt it? Because first of all Junior still has his “pineapple hairdo” and after Junior ends up in the hospital from his tussle with Brow’s son at a tv station where Vitamin took a bullet courtesy of Brow’s son, Tracy visits Junior in the hospital and smuggles him in a sketch pad, and comments that “Tess and your wife are both outside waiting to see you.” but he never mentions her as Moon Maid nor does she appear at all in the story…and also no mention of Honeymoon either Just wondering
Just to repeat what I have observed at other times: No matter what constraint TMS has given to DT, the writers should take that into account for the entire story line. We have seen almost all of the stories start real slow and end with too many loose threads. Although I love the new team, this is getting to be the standard for the strip. They certainly are capable of weaving good characters and the art is excellent, but the slow starts and sudden stops are giving me whiplash. I wonder if the difference in a daily strip compared to a graphic novel is causing some problems. What I mean is, a graphic novel can be read in a few minutes and the reader can overlook a few inconsistencies because the end of the story comes quickly. No time is given to every detail of each panel. When the story is broken up into small panels, no more than three per day, then we critics have 24 hours to tear apart every little line drawn and colored. Just wondering.
How do we know the story about Moon Maid is going to start soon? Was it announced somewhere? I’m a newbie and don’t know a lot of things everyone else seems to know. So I’m only wondering if there is an announcement board? By the way I like Moon Maid in case you couldn’t guess! I made my picture from the picture of Mom that Honeymoon has in her room, which duh you probably knew already. Thanks.
Is this just me or I think MAYBE, just MAYBE, Moon Maid won’t be destroying this “Rat Nest”, but JOINING THESE CLOWNS ridding Dick Tracy! Moon Maid is angry about something, but what? The Maid might be angry at Junior marrying Sparkle. Or this might be a Moon Maid Wannabee turning to a life of crime.
Who knows? I enjoy reading this strip & I would love to see Mrs. Flattop wipe that smile off of Smiley (Maverick!). Maverick is one warped character. I want to see Smiley not to be a “suck up” to Dick Tracy!

This interlude seems to be treading water. We get the idea that this is exposition for a future story. I predict we will see MM by Sunday.
