Never give up little buddy. You could still become the wise old owl that finds out how many licks it takes to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop. 1, 2…...Sorry Teresa I just couldn’t help myself.
OK, been looking at that boat on the blog for two days. What the heck is Swedish Pirate for “AAR !” ? It’s been stolen from the caption, and the captain hasn’t noticed.
Hmmm- mo new FA or Blog entries for days at a time. Could our dear Teresa have suffered the same fate as so many posters, and actually been banned from posting by the Dark Overlords?
It’s not all that uncommon for there to be gaps in Teresa’s postings. If there was something really horribly wrong, she’d probably let us know. I have a feeling she will soon return.
I find myself drawn to check every so often (even knowing that GoComics will SHOW when FA posts again). It would be nice to know what is going on. I told my lover that he should make me a brief movie with a pleasant message so I can see and hear him when he is too busy to call. I did some for him (easy with the webcam) and even sang on one.
I HOPE that Vlad did not go off his meds. (Tho I don’t understand needing meds to stay sane). I stopped taking BP meds over a month ago and had really low readings yesterday (low for me- under 140 with warmer weather).
I miss my dear little frogHer and that cute little blogI hope her recovery is going quite wellHearing from her would be really swellI do not fear reprisals from VladThough my rhyming is really badI’m sure he is a capable nurseMore so than this verseWe hope Teresa is on the mendAnd to her our best wishes we do send.
On March 28 at 9:41pm it was a 195 frame animated GIF. The updates now are single frame PNG’s. I wonder how many I missed? Are you sure it’s only one per day? It would be interesting to have them all and assemble them into an animation…
No way is it one change a day, I’ve seen 2 changes or more a couple of times. I’ve been keeping a tab open so I can check it multiple times a day. Can you put the GIF up so I could download it?
In Kafkaville the Funerals Run on Time, by William John Watkins.Published in the November 1995 issue of Asimov’s Science Fiction.“When he came home, he was dead and gone to all he knew, officially through with the need for anything. All agreed it was a shame a misspelled name could take away so much in such a permanent way.”
Thank You! I had no idea that site existed. In retrospect, considering the nature of the internet, I should have known to search for it but there you are.
Teresa, I’m very sorry it has come to this, but you left me with no choice. I have hired the aforementioned Chinese sweatshop to begin producing knock-off/bootleg Frog Applause. Here is the first installment.
I saw “Vlad is dead”. So I thing that Theresa boy’s friend is dead for real. But english is not my first language, I hope I’m wrong. Does VLAD is or was her boy friend or not ?
Thanks people. I just give the general specifications for Fake Frog Applause to the facility in China and then they put it together. It only costs me a dollar an hour, so I figure I could afford to get them to generate fifty or sixty a month.
Teresa’s Twitter feed doesn’t show any recent activity. Evidently Frog Applause had a Facebook presence, but it’s vanished. Shoecabbage shows nothing since January. Claude Rains would be green with envy over the way she’s vanished.
I don’t want to speculate, because speculation is useless, but this is disturbing. I really hope she’s OK, but I feel it’s important to balance that with respect for her boundaries.
If she’s closing or staying off all of her various blog, e-mail, GoComics, and social media accounts, that may mean that, for whatever reason, that’s what she needs to do.
I care, and I sincerely hope she’s OK, but I recognize the fact that I am not owed an explanation.
As for the GoComics overlords, they’ve probably never dealt with a situation quite like this before, but I doubt they’d be willing to disclose personal information about one of their artists.
As worrying as it may be, it’s possible the most respectful and supportive thing we can do right now is to try and accept the fact that we aren’t going to get any answers any time soon.
I think I have only made a comment or two down through the years, but I have been a regular reader of the strip and blog. I even have Frog Blog as my home page and was always the first site I came to after getting home from work in the morning. Then onto GoComics, where Frog Applause was the first comic I read. I have my own blog and have used some of the things she has posted on her’s, always with full credit and a link back to Frog Blog. Can’t even begin to tell you all how much I miss my daily dose of “lame”. Just wanted to add my concern to the many that have voiced it already. Teresa you are missed and no matter what has exactly happened, I sincerely wish you the best.
Sorry to see the end of FA and FB, FB was the only site I enjoyed enough to check for updates several times a day. I will miss the eclectic posts of art strangeness, nostalgia, all of it, hope Theresa is ok, and wish her all the best in her future endeavors, and if we are lucky we can find her art etc. in another venue in the future.
As an infrequent commentator, but fervent admirer, I also hope all is well with Teresa. I miss the blog and the strip, but also respect whatever is going on in her life. As someone stated, she doesn’t owe us anything for the great pleasure and surprises she has always given us. I just hope, again, that all is well.
Just to be clear, I’m not suggesting that any of you are doing anything wrong by expressing concern and desiring more information. There is no doubt in my mind that you all are totally supportive of Teresa and sincerely want what’s best for her.
To those of you who’ve posted your e-mail addresses in the hope of being invited to her blog, I think you’re misunderstanding the situation: It’s not likely that she’s decided to make Frog Blog into an invite-only affair. Probably what’s going on is that flipping the switch which causes it to show up as invite-only was the quickest way of getting it off the Web without permanently deleting all of its content.
The fact that she chose this route, as opposed to simply deleting the blog, is a hopeful sign. It means the blog could come back at some point, with all its content intact.
Anyway, I would recommend that you delete the posts containing your e-mail addresses, because there are automated scripts which scour the Web for e-mail addresses to add to spam lists.
Or if you don’t want to delete your addresses, at least re-post them so they’re broken up in such a way as to foil the spam spiders.
For example, instead of posting yourname@hotmail.com, you would type it as yourname at hotmail dot com.
Teresa, I don’t know if you’ll see this. I was never one of the “cool kids”, but I’ve enjoyed your strip and Frog Blog for years. I will miss both terribly. Your blog both educated and entertained. Be well, Teresa. I hope you’ll be back again.
Well, hell. What a revolting development! My “bad feeling” has come to pass. Been admiring and enchanted with your talent and creativity ever since meeting you on Wordie, Teresa. Never missed a post, ‘tho sometimes had to backtrack a few days. I fervently hope that you’ll be back anon…or, failing that, you have fair skies and following winds in your life-wending, with fond memories of our friendly sangha here. Namaste.
I’ll point out that Teresa’s possible retirement wasn’t completely unannounced. In the past she’s talked about not being happy with what she was doing. In fact, she took a break at one point because she said she was burned out and lacking ideas. After that period, she came back, so perhaps that time she found her muse. She also mentioned at one point that she was interested in raising goats. So it’s possible she’s decided to make the career change. Good luck Teresa, and I hope to see your work again.
It’s great to see everyone chiming in to say how much they appreciate this strip! But I trust Teresa knows we’d gladly give up FA and FB as long as she is happy and healthy; that’s the top priority.
I had to miss a week; sounds like I missed a lot. Did Teresa actually post a “Vlad is dead” announcement before her blog went dark?
Ms. Burritt, if you’re still reading this, I only ask 2 things: Please let us know if this really is the end of the blog and the comic, and please, please, be well.
Morton, yes, Teresa’s “Vlad is dead” message was to inform us that her Vlad e-mail account had been closed. So anybody writing to that address should not feel ignored. She can’t see any messages you send there.
Teresa, I hope you are well and happy. I, too, am worried, but I, too, recognize that you don’t owe me or anyone an explanation. I have greatly appreciated your kindness and graciousness in the few emails we’ve exchanged, and your unique vision of the world is one that I admire and miss. Blessed be.
One last thing from me…is to say how much I have enjoyed the vast majority of commentors drawn to Teresa’s blog. Assuming I’m able to recognize one as such, there have been some fine minds on board.
Even though I rarely comment, I’ve read FA/FB from the beginning and loved every minute of the lameness!!
Many posts from Teresa gave me new hope, carried me through a bad time, or made me think of something in a new/better way – for that, I will always be grateful to Teresa for sharing her creativity and experiences with us.
Also, because of that, I will always eagerly wait the return – even if it does not materialize.
Altho I miss our daily “doses”, it cannot compare to how much good will, love and care I send in Ms. T’s direction for whatever is and will be. :)
Whatever you decide, Teresa, thank you for all the fun, thought provocation, and off-the-wall humour. May the spider of courage protect you from the apple-dwelling juice monsters of confusion, and may your pansies flower through the summer snow.
The internet is nothing without you.
I will try a different approach.Teresa, get your ass back here and get to work or there will be no after cartoon activities this weekend until you clean out your bedroom and learn to be more responsible on the Internet.
So this is the new Pibgorn, and you’re all upset that Teresa, just like Brooke, has just taken her ball and gone home. Unlike Brooke, who just wanted to hear about the degree of his supposed “genius”, Teresa probably had an epiphany about postmodern art.
I must say that this is the lamest flash mob I have ever seen, what with everybody just milling about and muttering in confused or angry puzzlement. Well done!
Having read FA and FB for several years I miss it. It was always a smart and challenging strip. I hope it returns. I think I’ll miss her FB most. She showed great taste
Teresa, If you’re reading this: I’m late chiming in here. Thank you, thank you, thank you for your wonderful, fun, thoughtful strip and blog. I miss your presence and send all my well wishes!
Thank you, Old Wolf…. they are most wonderful, all of you people who frequent this exquisite lame place in the name of Holy Theresa and Vlad … I’ll keep visiting just to read the posts!
Much as we would like to believe otherwise, it would seem Teresa has left the building. May she live a long, blessed, and fulfilling life. My sincere thanks to her for all she has done to expand my horizons- and verticals as well. Gloria Monday useth Sikh transit.
After two weeks without a computer, I am back, only to find myself three weeks without Teresa, and not the slightest idea why. Is “74 days” a truth-saying? Is she battling illness, depression. burnout, stalker, law courts, or other adversity? Her page on that social networking site is shut down, too. We can only wonder, pray, hope for her return….
I can’t seem to upload the picture (I guess I’m just lame), but here is a photo of a wasp that I didn’t know existed until I saw it on Frog Blog. (Like so many other world-expanding posts from Teresa.)
@coltish1 as JohnnyDiego said, 12 days agoOn Sunday March 24 in Frog Applause Ms. T sez she has accumulated 74 days of sick leave. Then she sez, “La peste bubonique.”Bubonic Plague! Is this significant? If so the incubation period before symptoms of Bubonic plague occur is usually 7 – 10 days. Treatment and recovery can take up to 2 months. As I see it 74 days from March 24 is somewhere around June 4, assuming that Ms. T will take the whole of her accumulated sick leave. If she has a full recovery from the plague I should expect to see her back well before that, however.Oh. As an aside, Bubonic plague is fatal in approximately 50-60% of infected persons.hope that clears everything up.wilbur garrod
The lack of Teresa is really buggin’ me. She has always been so nice to us readers, and so supportive of other creative people. I hope and pray that all is well in her world. Of if all is not well, I sincerely hope that she is getting through it with strength and style.
One month anniversary of the end of Lame as we knew it..Just decided to check and was pleasantly surprised to see all the stuff posted..Hoping for the best for all!
In order to treat you as I do some of the most honored members of my family, Teresa: Happy Birthday! (one day late)… Missing your humor, your artistry, and your light.
I share the belief that sooner or later, the comments on this page will be so numerous that it will be difficult to load this page. Though Beviek’s idea of regrouping at the 12/20/2006 installment is workable, we would soon encounter the same problem, and as we moved from one day to the next, the conversation would be hard to keep track of.
I wonder if a more elegant solution might be for one of us to set up a Frog Blog tribute message board? Surely somebody around here knows their way around phpBB and could set up a forum for us. If a few of us chipped in to cover hosting costs, it would be readily doable.
Loading is already cumbersome, and I miss Teresa’s subtle guidance and whimsical humor. I have no magical answer to our dilemma here, I can only offer these words of consolation and support:
You know, if
one person, just one person does it they may think he’s really sick andthey won’t take him. And if two people, two people do it, in harmony, they may think they’re both faggots and they won’t take either of them. And three people do it, three, can you imagine, three people walking insingin a bar of Alice’s Restaurant and walking out. They may think it’s anorganization. And can you, can you imagine fifty people a day,I saidfifty people a day walking in singin a bar of Alice’s Restaurant andwalking out. And friends they may thinks it’s a movement.
Flight Suit and beviek et al,My domain has pretty much unlimited resources and scripts to automatically install phpBB or a similar forum called SMF. I’d be happy to set up a place.
Excellent! Did I understand you to say this won’t cost you anything extra at all? ‘Cause if doing this does cost you money, I’m definitely willing to chip in a little to help with hosting costs.
I’m sure we have some members here who’ve never posted on a phpBB style message board, so we’ll have to be helpful toward those who aren’t totally tech savvy.
Once they get the hang of it, however, I’m sure they’ll love how easy it is to embed images in posts, use bold text, etc…
Posting pictures is good news. Many of us were drawn to the blog for Teresa’s discerning taste in images and, while I may not be as good at it… I may have some that would be of interest to others.
@pepelaputrRefresh button has been replaced with option to list 15 more posts or, alternately, the whole shebang. Edit: I see there’s also a “refresh comments” button at the end of the list (just above the “comment on this strip” box. I don’t understand what its function is, ’tho.
To APersonOfInterest, Androgenoide, and Beviek, I say don’t worry! phpBB is just the brand name of the most widely used Web forum/message board platform out there. As LaffinLarry said, if you can post here, you can just as easily post on a bulletin board of that type.
The only difference is that, when you’re ready for it, you’ll find all kinds of neat tools at your disposal for doing things like embedding photos in your posts or making your text bold or italic, or having giant sized fonts of various colors, or whatever.
But you don’t have to use any of those features unless or until you’re comfortable doing so.
beviek, if you’re already savvy enough to figure out how to use HTML code to put an image into a post on this site, then you’ll have no problem with the type of bulletin board we’re talking about.
In fact, phpBB uses a variation on HTML called BBscript, which lets you use a lot of HTML commands you’re already familiar with, only you put them inside brackets [ ] instead of, um, whatever those pointy things are called that you put HTML commands inside of. <>
But the beauty of it is that you don’t have to type the BBscript commands if you don’t want to. If you want to embed a picture, there’s a little “picture” button you can click on which automatically generates the appropriate commands for you. Really neat stuff.
If you need any help, I have run phpBB forums also and know how to troubleshoot pretty decently. It’s probably a good idea to have such a forum because I am not sure how long the commenting section will remain here or FA itself, I was kinda hoping Teresa would be back by now.
Ok, everyone, it exists.Go to http://lafinlarry.net/faas/index.php. I installed it and changed precious few things from the default settings. I started one forum where we can talk about how we want to organize the place. So go and register and let’s get going. And yes, I’ll want some administration help. I was very familiar with 2,x version of the thing, not so much with 3.0.I was thinking of asking Flight Suit because he sounds familiar with this. You’ll probably be in there too, Hugh B..
beviek, if you join LaffinLarry’s new message board, I’m sure that e-mail notification of replies to posts will be part of the mix!
LaffinLarry, I know nothing about the technical side of phpBB, but if you’re thinking of making me a moderator, I’d be happy to help, and I would treat that as a sacred trust.
In other words, I believe a moderator must be fair and impartial.
While I applaud the sentiment behind the creation of a “tribute” site, it will not and can never possibly be “Teresa’s”. Style may be copied and content may be similar, but the “lame” will not be the same. I will just wait patiently and pray that she returns.
No way that we’re pushing (or even approaching) a limit, here. The record for number of comments is something like 2000 or so. Somebody did it deliberately; give me a while and maybe I’ll remember where it was.
In an effort to make this place a bit more wieldy, I just went through and deleted some of my posts. Didn’t make a big difference because there weren’t that many. But if everyone would remove some of their older comments that no longer need to be here…
I once observed a blue jay turning a wasp nest into a happy meal. It had to pluck a few wasps from the air and bisect them by beak a few times before it could detach its takeout order of larva in a paper cup and go enjoy it in peace, of course.
I had stalker(s) once. Never found out who, or what happened to them. Can’t claim to care. They are expensive, what with having to buy new tires, belts and hoses and the like. Never got a crucifix put in my trail mix, though. Got a magic marker in my laundry once. Hardly the same thing.
I wonder if Comics Sherpa or any of the other blogs or commentators will eventually notice T’s disappearance and our unprecedented efforts to keep the flame burning in her absence?
Just a suggestion here…. 12.20.2006 is the first Frog Applause to appear here on go comics. There are few if any comments. Y’all could have your daily lamefest by starting from the beginning and reliving the glory days of Grace and Co. No blog, of course, but plenty of strips in the archive to keep things going for a few years, if need be, and a ready made forum for all.
52 days since we have seen Teresa. Supplies running low. Compass still spinning. The fog continues to thicken. I begin to believe the old Gypsy woman’s admonition that this expedition was ill advised.
I’ll leave you with this little nugget of wisdom …-“Sixty years ago I knew everything; now I know nothing; education is a progressive discovery of our own ignorance” – Will Durant
I was having a spirited discussion with myself, which was fine until I touched on a sensitive topic and ended up punching myself in the face. To make matters worse, I then took pictures of myself and posted them on Twitter. I didn’t even know I had a Twitter account!
1% of success is inspiration. 90% of success is showing up. The other 9% is tax, which explains why 99% is perspiration. I would explain it further, but I left my Venn diagrams in the umbrella stand.
Spinning, spinning, spinning…. Here we go, into June. I keep my fingers crossed for the magical date 4 June, in hopes that it is magical. Besides, my fingers are cramping.
I echo the sentiments of many here. Although I have not commented before, I have enjoyed FA and FB for quite a while. Hope all is well with you Theresa, hope you’ll be back soon.
Wow, Pepelaputr! Helen of the Internet, my favorite online comic back at the end of the ’90s, and Blackhawk, my favorite comic book back in the ’50s! Nostalgia-pangs! Now, if only the Queen of Lame will return to us this month….
I wonder if Teresa’s just waiting for us lame-os to simmer down… I, for one am engaging in a staring contest with FA and FB… henceforth withholding speech, and not blinking… We’ll see who cracks first!
i check every day in case….i would like to have news from you Theresa. Are you ok ? Life is good for you ? Give us a word please, 500 coms after your last world…..
Well there is the thing about Frog Applause. It points out a bit of the weirdness and lameness of everyday life which, once seen, cannot be unseen. In short, I do not enjoy maple smoked bacon grease on my pancakes. Though it does photograph well, it is not as sweet as maple syrup. You would think it would be. It has maple flavor.
Teresa! You have had more than enough time off. Your devoted fans and readers are doing their part. Please at least tell us if you are retiring, quiting, on hiatus, hospitalized, dead, in space, or any of the other lame excuses for allowing us to stare at a blank space for two months. I hope things are well with you and wish you the best. I will check in later.
I am creating an army of Ninja Squirrels.Their physical conditioning is excellent. But their discipline is terrible.I think the albino is turning them against me.
It’s been a couple of months since we received a check. The nice people from the NSA drop by every couple of weeks and ask about you. We still don’t know where you are, right? Let us know when you’re coming back so we can fumigate the trailer. Mom says to say, “Hi!”
After multiple entries of address and zip code (and knowing that they track these things), can anyone tell me why Google still thinks I speak Spanish and live in North Jersey?
Halfway through the second game of volleyball, the picnic became a wake. Coincidentally, that is also when it became more fun, though some kill-joys kept insisting that authorities needed to be contacted and arrangements made. As a compromise, we sent somebody for a second keg.
Due to a clerical error, Thursday will be replacing Wednesday in this week’s lineup. Wednesday will then replace Thursday, after it has been dragged, kicking and screaming, back to reality. We regret any inconvenience this may cause.
Before you know it, June 2013 will be history.Teresa, your position and your acolytes await you, and we hope you are well; don’t just run out the clock on your GoComics contract….
I have not forgotten. I will not forget. I kept the faith for over 12 years until Duke Nukem Forever was released, despite all the scorn and mocking of the unbelievers… I will wait forever for the return of Frog Applause. Sending you good energy, Teresa.
88 days on the trail. Our porters have left us. We carry on through incessant rain and clinging mud. Our supplies have dwindled to a case of Sterno, a tin of mixed nuts and a two liter bottle of Evian. The fog lifted when the rains came. Visibility is approximately 30 feet. We are supplementing our supplies with roots, grubs and whatever fauna is foolish enough to crawl into our tents while we lay down to slap bugs and curse the heat and humidity while the peace of sleep is denied us in this space between realities. Teresa must be near, or I fear that we shall never find her.
Isn’t the loony bin the thing behind the door at the bottom of a spiral force vending machine? If we’ve already put up the cash and pressed the right buttons, it should be easy to get her out so we can get back to enjoying her lame, crunchy goodness.
I am considering going green and starting a business. For every dollar somebody sends me, I will toss a plastic bottle into the trash for landfill sequestration rather than recycling it.

You folks are not suffering alone. I too have been disinvited from the party. I feel so abandoned!
FLIGHT SUIT over 11 years ago

In the past Teresa has had problems with unwanted attention. I hope that her absence isn’t a reaction to anything like that.

FLIGHT SUIT over 11 years ago

Treatment and recovery can take up to 2 months. As I see it 74 days from March 24 is somewhere around June 4, assuming that Ms. T will take the whole of her accumulated sick leave. If she has a full recovery from the plague I should expect to see her back well before that, however.Oh.

You know, ifone person, just one person does it they may think he’s really sick andthey won’t take him. FLIGHT SUIT over 11 years ago
FLIGHT SUIT over 11 years ago
beviek, if you’re already savvy enough to figure out how to use HTML code to put an image into a post on this site, then you’ll have no problem with the type of bulletin board we’re talking about.

I was very familiar with 2,x version of the thing, not so much with 3.0.I was thinking of asking Flight Suit because he sounds familiar with this. You’ll probably be in there too, Hugh B..

I’ve done a little public speculating about the possible reasons for T’s disappearance, and I, for one, am going to try not to do much more of it.
The way I see it, any speculating we do in public could have unforeseen and unintended consequences.
The safest, least potentially destructive thing, therefore, is to not speculate.

Just a suggestion here…. 12.20.2006 is the first Frog Applause to appear here on go comics. There are few if any comments. No blog, of course, but plenty of strips in the archive to keep things going for a few years, if need be, and a ready made forum for all.
