Transcript:
Tiffany: "Do you fancy me, George? I daresay, I-"
Quill: "Hugh, Martha. Let THIS be my reply..."
Mom: "!"
Dad: "Wow! Quite a kiss"
Brad: "Looks like those two are really into it!"
Toni: "They're acting. Right, Luann?"
Luann: "One isn't"
So, the play must go on! We are meant to study the varied reactions of the audience of Luann principals, I guess. I’ll just mention that I am somewhat surprised at Nancy’s reaction to a stage kiss….
Brought to you, by….Queen Anti-Perspirant… "For when the ‘Show Must Go On’ "….Jane’s Curtains… “When night comes down, so do our curtains”…and by…Trust Deodorant… “Switch to anyone else, and you’ll miss Trust”….
Seismic: (Re: Re-heating some leftovers, since the ‘big Go crash")I checked Wikipedia, and even that article that said Geffen was a redherring …. seems that they played people again..,. the clues she gave out at the one I was recalling said the letters were A,E,T…. that “implicated” Taylor, Beatty and one other, but that was another false lead she put out… and the one you found there turned out to be another… After awhile, that mystery will get tiresome (as if it already wasn’t…lol!)
If Luann did not go batcrap crazy over Tiffany’s little cellphone subterfuge, she trusts Quill enough to know he’s not going to fall for Tiffany. She knows he’s a talented actor, as evidenced by everyone else’s reaction to the onstage smooch. Luann’s just not happy that Tiff gets to lock lips with Quill, further fueling her delusion that there is (or could ever be) something between her and Quill.
I hope that’s the end of this arc, this strip always becomes rather dull, whenever Mr Perfect is involved ( Reminds me of how the “N-Ick” character ruined any episode of Family Ties that he was included in).
“Let’s just end this whole jealousy crap with Luann, Quill, and Tiff.
We all know that Quill is not a stable guy and just like Aaron hill, he’ll go back to Aussieland.
The only way this “romance” will continue is if he or she moves to each others country for college"
I don’t know about that. Many did not give the long distance online romance a chance, but it’s lasted quite a while. In the real world, it’s doable for them to keep going until college, and Quill’s family is apparently well-heeled— I couldn’t afford to send my kids halfway around the world to go to camp— so it’s very likely he’ll come back to the States for college. How long in Luannivese time until they graduate high school, though, about 15 years? That’s a long time to keep the long-distance romance arc going.
Everyone keeps saying how bad an actress Tiffany is and yet she got into the camp while Luann didn’t and she was able to get the lead part out of plenty of actresses there and right here she and Quill are kissing apparently in such a convincing way that have everyone in the Degroot family surprised, and since Quill had that talk with Tiff and that she got the message I doubt she’s interested in him anymore.
mr. Evans better have a better direction than this PLAY…It’s killing Luann and the whole group, even me….I did NOT want to see Tiff. get anywhere, especially with Quill.
The summer appears o be going quickly. In one week, they put on a whole production? In comic time, tha was fast! There are only a couple of weeks for school to start.
You always do the the scene to the best of your ability as directed. Let’s see how this plays out before jumping to conclusions. What was the convention when I was their age and now are somewhat different. The reactions are natural for their ages, though I’m a little surprised at Toni’s.
If that was Nancy’s reaction to the on-stage kiss, I wonder what it will be when they get to Act III with the George and Martha Washington nude love scene.
Mom has a right to be surprised, and Luann is smart to be ticked— a stage kiss is supposed to be light and quick. Being between a future president and a widow, context also calls for a light, quick kiss.*On the other hand, it was cool of the whole family to come even though their Luann didn’t get accepted. Hope we still learn why!
Levi – Tiff will STILL lose the part if Luann jumps on stage, pulls Tiff away, grabs the cap, and reveals that SHE alone is the real Martha Washington in this play. But not likely to happen. Tomorrow’s Sunday.
Guys, Quill is probably the closest this “camp” has to a PROFESSIONAL in the entire bunch of kids attending (although “Sheraton St. Louis” thinks SHE is the professional actress, of course!); he WILL carry on as the script requires. What NONE of us can know for sure, YET, is whether the script or Tiffany is driving any ‘torrid’ kiss we AREN’T seeing in today’s strip. What we also haven’t seen yet is what will happen backstage after this scene – but OH BOY! I so want to see it…and it’s entirely possible the ENTIRE CAMP will hear it.
At least we got a swift resolution to the speculation that Tiffany would have to quit the play to take the picture-frame modeling job. Now she gets two credits to add to her resume. Congratulations, Tiff!
“Quill is the one not acting”^I have suspicions about this, as well.. but I realize suspicions aren’t proof…. ==Certain little things here and there lurk about… will go back and retrace steps…. I think there will be a “recap” on Monday….Maybe it will be Lu and Qcumber putting the cap on things on their way to the airport, and we’ll get some more indication then… unless they skip the airport and just have her talking to Bern and Delta in tne park….
So, 1 “cartoon month” for drama camp goes by in 1 actual month. Yet they are are still in high school for the past 15 actual years? Can I take 15 candles off my next birthday cake?
Look on the Brightside, Luann. At least it’s not the Hollywood rated R production. Else there’d be a sex scene right about there instead of just a kiss..
Just how passionate can a kiss between George and Martha Washington be, anyway? I would think that anything too physical would be painful, with those wooden teeth.
Jealous!?? The word exists because thats how normal people, not just young girls, react in this kind of situation. People react like human beings, not like robots or Vulcans.^^Well said!
And yet she wasn’t so bothered by the photo Tiff sent her.Yes she has a right to be jealous when it’s called for but this is a play as in everything on stage is acting. If Luann were to do an acting which involves her kissing someone else would that mean that Quill should be jealous then?
My sister-in-law hated Lisa Blount because she thought she was really Lynette Pomeroy, Debra Winger’s coworker and friend in An Officer and A Gentleman.-I mentioned she was a good actress and it took Becky a while to realize they were not one and the same. -I think Lisa’s safe now.-But let’s be honest, how could Quill not fall in love with Tiffany? Sure she’s only skin deep but the skin is pleasant to look upon.
Ummm, I suspect his lack of progeny may have had something to do with surviving smallpox. And he was also well known for loving to dance. He was one president where a woman was guaranteed to get a dance with if she attended a Presidential ball.
There is a strip around June, definitely in ‘03, where Lu shows that she acknowledges that she’d change her nose, if she could… in going over a list about her features compared to how she’d like to see them, vs. what she actually has to work with….
After the show Luann goes to kiss Quill and he stops her because he pigged out on Limburger and onions before the scene. That’s when Luann realizes Tiffany showed excellent acting skills by not vomiting on stage.
Perhaps George W. had mumps when he was a child…that could have caused his seeming inability to have his own children. Didn’t his wife have her own children from a previous marriage which ended with the death of her first husband? I wonder if the play showed that or if it just focused on GW’s wooing his future wife, Martha. Whatever, Luann was Really Irritated when Quill was kissing Tiff… Since we didn’t see The Kiss in the comic strip today, I’m guessing that we fans are probably supposed to add our own kissing fantasy to the story.
Could also be the elbow’s crook bending, with an intimate back pat, or a hand rest on the other side of his back, resting just below his right shoulder blade….
“where they are more engrossed in the story than in the actors”^Yeah, when I see a movie or a tv show, I’m always focused on the story myself… but these days, people put so much focus on who’s playing what part… they just look for their “favorite” stars… Plays and TV shows and movies are made to engage, not be a “vehicle” for someone, but alas, that’s what happens these days…. My take is that different actors will get different results, and like you’ve said, the best actors will not make the audience focus on them, but the story… ==But having an interest in writing, it’s also a chicken vs. the egg thing, as only the finest actors can carry a script.. if it’s not well written, no actor/actress could save it…
“…they have failed to produce a good play.”^And you are right about that, too…. all the work that goes into it, not just the “darlings” of the stage, but the writers, directors, sound, light, costume, set design and production, scoring and musical director and arranger, if there’s music to accompany, musicians, (if live), effects, legal…. so many pieces to this “well-oiled machine”….

Wow! 2am CST and no comments! This is a first.
Didn’t know the play was all ready to be staged. I am surprised that Luann trusts that ‘her’ Quill is acting, that is very adult behavior on her part.

Quill is excellent in acting, as we understandfrom Mrs. Manestay. Let us hope he is stillacting. Chemistry gets involved , in sceneslike this.

Maybe after the play is over with Quill could use the same line and kiss on LuAnn.

Maybe I’ll take a Betty Everett cue, and title today’s strip: “It’s In Their Kiss”…..==As an alternate, “The Kiss of Success”…

But yet raise the speculation in re: “What will Q & Lu do with the rest of the summer???”
