This could take awhile with just 3 panels a day… in the 20’s they often had as many as 6 to work with… stupid syndicates (Not Blaming team Tracy here, it isn’t their fault)
“She wasn’t referred to as Mysta until 2011.”To the readers, yes. But Diet Smith knew her as well as anyone except Junior, and “Mysta” was the first word out of his mouth when he first saw her. Also, when she met with Tracy on 6/25, she said, “It’s me, Mysta!” It’s implied that she went by that name even in the old days.
This is what I’ve been waiting for! And the art is (as always) great, especially the layout of panel two! Now, we can move onto the case with Hy Pressure, and the Apparatus, and Melies, and – It just keeps getting better!
It will be interesting to see what kind of back-story spin is developed in the MCU conference room. This could be an opportunity to reveal how this Moon Maid has come to this point; given the protocols of comics today (albeit more so comic books rather than strips), any retcon is possible. Allowing Honeymoon to be present (while improbable in the real world) adds greatly to the impact of what is about to unfold.
why would this moon maid lite EVER be honest with tracy? think about it… all she’s ever done is weave an intricate web of deceit and lies and assaults.
She blasted sparkle then left a threatening note (regardless of whether it blew away or not), she stole a car (there were OTHER ways she could have gotten away from smith industries…like taking the car she CAME in instead of stealing one from smith), intentionally misled the wheatons, kept sparkle’s true identity a secret, vandalized sacred ground by demolishing the real moon maid’s tombstone, then steals the car from retik and stellaluna to visit her daughter and LIES to them upon her retirn saying she went to get a chocolate milkshake.
hardly the actions of a trustworthy person to say the least, and to even entertain the thought that she would come 100% clean with tracy and the MCS/MCU is laughable!
honeymoon is there as an observer and an “interested party”.. but if you object to HER being there, then tracy shouldnt be there either.. conflict of interests and all that nonsense…regardless of whether or not he is the chief of detectives/leader of the mcu/s
oh one other interesting note… notice how honeymoon says “She could be my birth mother” but DOESNT say “my real mother”… thats a little bit of a telling statement right there. nicely crafted mike curtis!
To all you non “PRO” posters: Are you receiving notice from gocomics that the free emails that send you your daily fix of strips is about to stop? I am receiving a “count down” to August 28. I won’t mind the small fee they are requiring for PRO membership, but I haven’t seen any other comment to that notice.
Here we are more than a year after Moon Maid was reintroduced, and we still have no idea who or even what she is. Mike Curtis knows how to play his cards close to the vest, doesn’t he? And it’s got us all on the hook. I don’t know when I’ve ever been so captivated by a comic mystery as I have with “Who Is Mysta?”
Unable to help the Wheatons by using her powers, Mysta does the right thing and looks to the MCU for help. She answered her own question, “What shall I do?” by making the wise choice. Again we see a creative use of a two panel format. As with Mysta in her boudoir and in Sail’s lab, and the hit man waving to Wheaton, this format is extremely effective in the hands of a talented artist like Mr. Staton. As was mentioned, the art really pops. We have a strong sense of place as Mysta takes a seat. Captivating, indeed.
A few folks today speculated on Moon Maid’s body language – I just realized, what she is doing is leaning forward to place her outer coat on the chair in front of here.
Although the story has taken us to this point, there is still the question, “What happened to in Moon Valley”? I am glad that Moon Maid has come forward to Tracy. I like the way Honeymoon sits across the table from the Moon Babe as if trying to figure her out. I still hope that Moon Maid is real, and stays on as a recurring character.
Tarry Plaguer: As a matter of fact, I am greatly bothered by the smoking pictures you supplied..Perhaps yesterday, I might not have given them much thought. But in light of the current discussion, which is the appropriateness of Sam’s continued smoking, indoors, in the presence of non-smokers, to include a child; at the very best, comparing today’s Dick Tracy and the panels you supplied is like comparing “apples to oranges.”.Having lived through decades of having to go outdoors to get away from the smoke, I do seem to recall that, even in the bad old days, it was still inappropriate to smoke in front of children..But I see where I have changed over time, as well..I was a huge fan of George Burns, and I still enjoy his humor. I even went to the one man show where Frank Gorshin impersonated George – just a couple months before Frank’s death..Yes, I love George Burns..But I’m also coming to realize that most of the George Burns I heard was over the radio. I was not as aware of his smoking back then..Looking at the picture you supplied of him – especially the pose in which he is smoking that stogie, gosh, I’m left asking myself what did I ever see in this guy?
I was noticing that the female characters, (Mysta, Honeymoon, Stella Luna) are all sitting down, while the male characters (Tracy, Sam, Retik) are all standing. I don’t think it means anything, but I did find it interesting.
And while I have always enjoyed the character, James T. Kirk, I have always felt that William Shatner is a bit of a jerk..The above picture of him does nothing to disabuse me of that notion.
Someone help me on e-cigs..Under present rules, my employer cannot ban e-cigs in our break room. Therefore, our break room is starting to look like the smoke-filled back rooms of yore..Again, I find myself going outside to avoid the smoke – but this is where the real smokers go – so I have to go farther and farther away from the building to avoid all the smoke!.But my question is this: Are e-cigs a nicotine delivery mechanism? And, if so, how much nicotine are the non-smokers in the room being exposed to?.Sometimes I wonder, the farther we go, the behinder we get…
Speaking for myself, of course I’m not silly enough to think that I will get some kind of a health problem from seeing a drawing of a man smoking. How ridiculous! That was never the point. It’s just that I know (from first hand experience) what that room would smell like in real life, with all that "gag-a-maggot’ smoke in the air. And I LIKE the character of Sam Catchem Always have. So seeing him smoking makes me feel conflicted. Because the writing is good enough that the characters seem real, even though I am fully aware that it is a work of fiction.
my father smoked, my brother smoked, my one brother STILL smokes, i have friends that smoke and other relatives… smoking doesnt bother me at all so i dont understand why a COMIC STRIP CHARACTER * that smokes is so annoying to people?!?! who frickin cares?!?!?!
Last word on smoking. Sam’s smoking in public places dates the strip. But that’s okay; we seem to like our Dick Tracy a bit dated. My objection is that he is smoking in front of a child indoors. That was not accepted, even in the days when smoking was acceptable!
Plenty of smoke in Ghibli’s ‘The Wind Rises’ – But not the kind you might expectHmm.. Even Hayao Miyazaki is getting grief about characters smoking.Anti-Smoking Lobby Goes After Studio Ghibli’s New Film
The Circe story appeared in Superman Vol 1 165 (November, 1963) but according to DC Comics Database the back up in that issue (“The Sweetheart That Superman Forgot!”) started with “An exposure to Red Kryptonite robs Clark Kent of his memory and super-powers” (http://dc.wikia.com/wiki/Superman_Vol_1_165) Since Superman has his superpowers either the synopsis is off or you have the wrong issue.

I know it’s hard, Mysta, but you’ll have to come clean and tell them what you did to Sparkle, too.

My Ex-Father-In-Law was Mayor for 16 years. I always called him Art, no matter what the setting was. I guess not all families are so formal.
