RightâŠwhat the devil is Moony Uni supposed to be, huh? Is that short for, I donât know, Municipal University? Or what? I only ask becauseâŠItâs not a very encouraging name for a school!

I say âyikesâ every time Iâve watched Jabberjaw, Josie and the Pussycats, Speed Buggy, Land of the Lost, Yogi, and The Banana Splits⊠I guess they are a corrupting influence, after all!⊠â Especially noticed it, when in a need to âexit stage leftâ from a scene quickly, with an anamorphic talking dog or car in tow, I found myself uttering: âHey gang, letâs get outta here!ââŠ.

How far away is Moony Uni from Pitt? Is it possible to commute, or will Bernice actually be going away?
keema70 about 11 years ago
I wonder why neither Luann nor Quill seem to be involved in any school theater productions this school year.
seismic-2 Premium Member about 11 years ago
Why is it that I think 2 years from now Luann will still be in this same situation? Oh yeah, itâs on account of the âno talent and no goalsâ, probably.
cruftschamp about 11 years ago
@overtherainbow: exactly⊠moony uni..is it Rev. Moonâs university? Some sect, thatâs what it sounds like..
Sisyphos about 11 years ago
That old gang is on the brink of splitting up!With Luann at Pitts CC, Bernice at Moony Uni, they will apparently be pretty close to one another (Moony Uni is said to be âhereâ; hence, either in Pitts or nearby, so " Pitts Municipal University" is a good guess for its full name). Deltaâs choice of Howard is excellent, if she can get in. I have some (slight) familiarity with Howard and have been on its campus for an event; I am also acquainted with its current president, from a former job of his. But of course D.C. is far from California, where Pitts seems to be. Weâll have to wait to see how this all works outâŠ.Yikes!

OH. So NOW Lu Considers Herself an âAdultâ???HA!You Babettes SHOULD Have SEEN Your Whiny Crybaby G/F Last Week while She was Tormenting Her Hopefully, Soon to be Ex B/F! It Wouldâve Curled Your Guts.
Its interesting that Bernie is going to the SAME College as Mr. Perfect. And so far, THAT little detail hasnât Really SUNK in with Luann, Yet.
Let Lu find Out that a Certain Other Person (like Say, Oh I Dunno, Tiffany maybe) is Going to Moonbat U. Our Heroine WILL be Switching From âJunieâ to âMoonieâ in a QUICKIE.Its Just as Well though. The âMoonâ is NOT a SAFE Place to Be these days, What with the Giddy Chinese Up There Tooling around with Their R/C cars and TEARING Up the Moonscape.
No Place Like NOME, I Say!
Errrrrrrr, Uhhhhhh, I THINK I NEED a NapâŠâŠ.,
Sangelia about 11 years ago
Adults at times still say âYikes". But in many cases, it is a reaction to something their family and or friends have done. Or they caught themselves doing something.
DougSmith about 11 years ago
Delta at Howard⊠a perfect fit⊠would write her a letter of recommendation if it would help
TORAD_07 about 11 years ago
Ok, so the scene is partially set, now. As expected, Lu stays in town (I gather to interact with whomever remains in town). Bernice will still be close by at Moony Uni. Although I wonder what will happen in re: Quill also being at Moony Uni as well? :-PPP Then again, Bernice has to be around to give Lu her daily dose of âsnark.â
Looks like Delta will be departing the strip. I guess they had to make room for new characters. Sorry to see her go. Hopefully sheâll return for the holidays, etc.
So now we need to determine what will happen with Tiff, Knute, Crystal, Ox, and Gunther, and the other seniors. Fogarty I think will find work moonlighting at either Pitts CC or Moony Uni. Not sure about PhelpsâŠShe might retire, but Iâm not sure if sheâll be replaced, as we no longer need the setting of Pitts HS. Unless Bernice eventually succeeds her there.
What might be interesting is if Lu, given her talents with children, eventually ends up teaching at Pitts HS and Bernice is the GC there⊠They can butt heads as adults! :-PPP
DougSmith about 11 years ago
LuAnn says âweâre talking like adultsâ⊠thatâs a fine, perfect linguistic differentiation by Mr. Evans⊠she says âweâre talking LIKE adults,â not âweâre talking AS adults,â as if they were⊠love this strip

JayBluE about 11 years ago
Yeah, thereâs no law that adults canât say âyikesâ or âzoinksâ or âyackety-sachmacketyâ, eitherâŠ. those words are acceptable⊠it seems that todayâs teen/young adult in training has a pre-set idea of what adults are âsupposedâ to be like âŠ.. â But, I guess all teens through the years think like thatâŠwe think we know what being an adult means, that itâs either thiis thing or that, and then we try to distance our adult selves from our teen selves, and say things like: "look at those freshmen " or âlook at those juniors⊠they are so immatureâ (though in reality only a bit apart from them, their own selves)âŠ.. â So interesting that at that age, we think we have an idea about what itâs all about, and then life and experience show us, and then we actually find out what itâs all aboutâŠ

Do young adults still say, Yada, yada, yada â or is the Seinfeld age ancient history now?
seismic-2 Premium Member about 11 years ago
âPittâ is presumed to be patterned after San Marcos, CA, where Greg Evans lives and works. âThe local junior collegeâ would therefore be Palomar College, which is in San Marcos. What is not clear is whether âMoony Uniâ is CSU San Marcos, which would be local, or whether it is San Diego State University, or UC San Diego, or some other school in that city. If so, then it would be about 25 to 40 miles away from Pitt, depending on just where in the âMunicipalityâ it is.

It was Luann herself who admitted she has no talent and no goals. See the December 9 strip. Whether you think she has talent is irrelevant; if she thinks she doesnât, then she will continue to wander through life aimlessly (except to get a boyfriend, of course).
Argy.Bargy2 about 11 years ago
This remark of Berniceâs is why I feel she thinks Luann is not worthy of her attention anymore, and she doesnât consider Luann a friend.

Reddyan about 11 years ago
I still say âyikesâ sometimes. Why is Bernice always such a downer? She kills the whole mood with one sarcastic remark. Itâs a bit annoying.
JayBluE about 11 years ago
Probably just a one day transition⊠there have been times when Greg did a two day âsynopsisâ, then did a 3-4 day storylineâŠ. â My guess is that there will be two other characters in a new arc starting either tomorrow or WednesdayâŠ. at first, I was leaning towards a TJ story, but now that I think about it, maybe a transition to Tiffany and her feelings, since the âafter school care scareââŠ.

âDude,â unfortunately, reading must not be one of your strongest suits. If you go back to my comment⊠I never said anything akin to you or any student ânot [being] capable of finishing school or focusingâ. What I was suggesting was (just like Luann) that many students who are NOT really interested in an educational goal will drift into a Community College situation, take a bunch of disjointed classes that will not move towards a goal, and then complain like heck when they finally DO have a goal and try to transfer their 90+ Community College credits to a 4-year school and only about 20 credits transfer into what they now want to be their major.+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++You can have any CHOICE you want, joel. Yet, I would suggest that you READ more carefully before you spout off like you often seem to.+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++Community Colleges are great places for two year programs. They can be acceptable places for students to transfer to 4-year schools⊠BUT ONLY IF THE STUDENT IS CAREFUL, FOCUSES VERY INTENTLY ON WHAT THE 4-YEAR SCHOOL WILL ACCEPT, and REALIZES THAT EXTRA CREDIT IS FOOLISH AND A POOR WAY TO EARN A GRADE. To my manner of thinking, Luann is not going to be particularly successful at Community College because a) she is NOT FOCUSED, b) has no real clue as to what she wants to do, c) has no real inclination at the moment to pursue anything other than her boyfriend, and d) she will probably just enroll in any course that strikes her fancy at any given moment.

Will they all make it to college by 2016??
Manga Enthusiast about 11 years ago
I agree. Iâm all for living in another culture, it widens perspectives and provides inspiration for the future. Besides, many adults go to college for the first time (or back to college) in middle age. There are always second and third chances in life.
Argy.Bargy2 about 11 years ago
The adults you are thinking of are a special subset of adults: parents of kids thinking about collegeâŠ.

Isnât Quill going to Moony Uni?
Argy.Bargy2 about 11 years ago
And there are a couple of other reasons for starting at a community college (now called âstate schoolâ in parts of Florida). One reason: if you arenât sure what you want to pursue, or have more than one possible interest, taking core classes at the state school can give you a sampling of a field and help you decide whether you are really interested in, say, pursuing training in animal medical care. And another very good reason is, if you feel overwhelmed at the thought of the typically large classes at a four year college, and fearful that you might fall behind and not be able to get personal attention, community colleges and state schools often have smaller classes that help if you start to find the material confusing.
-
I didnât start at a state school, but at a (former) small college that has since expanded to university size. I had graduated high school with 600 other kids, and we were in huge classes. I always struggled with math. At the smaller school, I was not as hesitant to ask the profs to repeat proofs. The disadvantage: when I found out what I wanted to do, I had to transfer to a university, because the archaeology classes I needed for that major werenât taught at my small school.
Tim Pickard Premium Member about 11 years ago
The best thing my daughter did when choosing a school, was choose to go where she knew no one. Although she is still close to her high school friends, it broadened her horizons by not being tied to her high school crowd.
Argy.Bargy2 about 11 years ago
In this day of inflated college costs, even being a brain doesnât guarantee that you can afford to go wherever you want. Two out of three of my brotherâs kids got partial scholarships to Princeton; the middle one was turned down for funds, got a partial scholarship at another, smaller school. But her partial scholarship only covered part of her expenses, so she had to work AND take a loan. She is now working two jobs to try to pay off the loan, and, like her brother and sister, is a âbrainiacâ.

Years ago the Unification Church purchased Bridgeport University here in Connecticut. Lots of folks started calling it âMoonie Uâ at the time. These days nobody mentions the Unification Church connection very much, and it doesnât seem to have damaged the universityâs reputation (they actually seem to have a better reputation these days than prior to Rev. Moonâs involvement).

I knew a kid like KNUTE in High School. You would have hated him Especially at the 29th reunion when he sowed up in a MASSERATTI.having lived In Japan, and Europe, with several patents under his belt. Bottom line you have no idea what the kid in high school will turn out to be.,

If Luann goes to Pitt CC, I assume sheâll live at home to save money. Bernice could live at home too, if Moony Uni is in fact within an hour or so drive from Pitt. (We havenât been told how far away it is.) Delta is genuinely going away to college, and I suspect Rosa is too. If Moony Uni is close to Pitt, then Quill will likely go there. Gunther will go to Pitt CC so that he can keep living with Mom. Tiffany will go to Hollywood, Crystal will go to Moony Uni, and Knute will flunk out of Weenie World.
TORAD_07 about 11 years ago
The way I see it playing out is Tiff will be at Pitts with Lu. Crystal will end up at Moony. Rosa will either go east to Ivy league, or if she stays near home, she will be at UCLA..
With Rosaâs intelligence (and her parentsâ financial status), Iâd be thinking âStanfordâ more than UCLA, if staying on the West Coast. But I also think she will go eastward to Ivy League and/or study abroad in Europe (which is what her parents want). Not sure if Gunth will follow her there or not. Again, if Lu and Gunth are eventually destined for each other, probably not.

If Moony Uni is in the same county as Pitt, then Quill can go there as a commuter student while still living at Guntherâs house (since Gunther will probably stay at home for college and then for the rest of his life.)
